Business Engineering Leader

Job purpose
This position will manage capital projects and manufacturing programs across Holcim Building
Envelope manufacturing facilities. The incumbent will manage scope, schedule, and budget for
capital projects and manufacturing programs, and deliver stated project and program objectives,
utilizing standard project management tools and working within a Stage Gate capital process.
Duties and responsibilities
Drive process safety and construction safety for projects and programs managed.
Ensure all project implementations strictly adhere to the Safety Policies relevant to the job
and site, including but not limited to permit to work, personal protective equipment, safe
working practices and LOTO.
Lead cross-functional teams through a Stage Gate capital process for project development
and execution.
Lead projects including defining scope, design criteria, budgets, resource needs, and
establishing and managing to the project schedule.
Plan and execute the programs/projects. Ensure the cost effective and timely completion of
project deliverables.
Investigate new processes, technologies, and equipment to meet business objectives.
Support Manufacturing in process improvement, debottlenecking, and yield gain efforts while
providing technical support.
Specify equipment with optimal configuration so that they can be readily adapted to suit
product specifications.
Ensure communication and alignment with site and operations leadership on all project
details.
Manage and / or Collaborate with Project Teams and key stakeholders
Identify key equipment vendors and project resources.
Provide innovative engineering solutions resulting in projects completed on time and on
budget.
Manage multiple, complex projects from concept to completion.
Coordinate and lead project charter reviews, design reviews and execution plans with top-
down communication ensuring project objectives are achieved and aligned.
Develop detailed project schedules in MS Project or equivalent and manage activities to
schedule.
Develop detailed scopes of work and project execution plans for projects and programs
managed.
Promote and support the application of the Management of Change (MOC) and
Commissioning, Qualification, and Validation (CQV) standards.
Independently initiates and establishes a plan to meet customer requirements for a new or
changed product, process, system or technology.
Lead design efforts for new or revised products, processes, systems and technologies.
Conduct design, project and/or management reviews.
Propose new programs/projects to enhance performance or increase capabilities for the
business.
Contribute to the planning and development of engineering strategy and provide technical
leadership, for the area of the organization to which they are assigned.
Coach and mentor more junior engineers, indirectly responsible for their technical
development.
Acquire general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields, and ability to function
on multi-disciplinary teams.
Provide guidance on technical issues to other technical departments.
Take responsibility for maintaining technical skills and staying current on changing
regulations, advances in the field, and new technologies relevant to their work. Attend
appropriate seminars and training to maintain and increase technical skill set.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university or equivalent experience.
Preferred majors are: Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
Proficiency in office software such as MS Office / Google Suite / MS Project or similar.
At least 5 years of project management (planning and execution) experience in the processing
industries (building materials, chemicals, paper, etc.).
Experience working within a Stage Gate capital process.
Strong project management skills with the ability to set priorities, collect and document
project requirements, successfully handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to be a quick and eager learner of new material and think holistically through complex
problems, with technical and non-technical components.
Demonstrated problem-solving ability with a proactive and collaborative style that works well
in teams and attention to detail.
Exceptional organizational, time-management and planning skills.
Ability to work independently as well as the ability to work in a team atmosphere to
collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to develop relationships with key stakeholder groups.
Strong collaboration, influence, and change management skills.
Working conditions
It will require up to 35 - 50% domestic travel.
Physical requirements
The function will predominantly be office / factory floor based. However due to the nature of
Project Engineering it will inherently require occasional access to elevated areas, confined spaces,
and constricted access. Environmental conditions may include cold, wet, hot, dirty spaces.
