Head of Accounting and Reporting
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Head of Accounting and Reporting is a result-oriented professional who will oversee all aspects of Accounting and Reporting for Building Envelope. The candidate will need to work collaboratively with the business to ensure integrity, standardization, and compliance with corporate guidelines as it relates to chart of accounts, accounting policies, business processes that impact the financial systems, and SOX controls across the organization. This candidate will help define, in conjunction with the Coporate Accounting team and the businesses, the overall roadmap for the Building Envelope to ensure strict accounting and controls standards are achieved in a timely manner as we become a US publicly listed company. The successful candidate will lead, coach and develop a team of accounting professionals, work closely with the BE CFO, Business Unit Heads of Finance, and the operational Business Unit Heads.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Financial Transactional Controls - Develop, coordinate, implement, and maintain systems and controls to ensure the timely and accurate recording of the transactional business data up through the various business unit general ledgers and into the applicable corporate reporting systems.
- Month End Closing - Develop, coordinate implement and maintain and enhance the integrated closing processes with each business unit to ensure compliance with applicable reporting requirements and deadlines. This will include ensuring the data and information for the various sub-systems and ERPs are accurately consolidating into the corporate consolidation systems.
- Review and approval of the period ending closing financial trial balances also ensuring the tables managing the cross -mapping of data and information are monitored and maintained.
- Ledger Management- Monitor and maintain financial posting structure with each financial system to ensure processed transactions are recorded in accordance with Holcim’s accounting and reporting policies.
- Technical Accounting Support – Provide technical oversight, guidance, and support to the business units regarding applying the various applicable accounting standards to business processes or transactions. The accounting guidance provided will need to be supported by an understanding of the accounting guidance provided by US GAAP and/or Holcim’s corporate accounting and reporting policies.
- Internal Controls – Leads and coordinate the implementation of a SOX control framework across the Building Envelope business units with close coordination and collaboration with Corporate Internal Controls, the Accounting teams, and the operational business units. Assists and supports the organization with initial compliance with and ongoing presentation, testing, and monitoring of conformance to the requirements of Holcim’s internal control structure. Perform evaluations of internal controls, communications, risk assessments, and maintenance of documentation, both for controls and processes. Identify risks and evaluate deficiencies while working with internal departments/business units to remedy them appropriately.
- Internal/External Audit – Direct and support the periodic and annual audit process to ensure the timely completion of these engagements. This would include coordinating with the staff regarding supplying requested data, reviewing prepared supporting schedules to ensure the adequacy of the information being provided, and the timely follow-up of open items to ensure the timely completion of the audit engagements.
- Business Process Improvements – Development and implements best practice financial processes and strategies for the overall improvement in the operations of the financial systems of each business unit.
- Budgeting and Planning – Provide periodic and ad-hoc financial information supporting the various budgeting and planning processes.
- Project Management - the ability to plan, initiate, monitor, and implement projects within and across the organization.
- Staff Development/Organization Leadership – Ability to organize, lead, and develop a team of financial professionals to ensure exceptional performance in accomplishing their required tasks and duties.
- Corporate Tax Support - Provide periodic and ad-hoc financial information supporting the various data requests from the Tax organization in support of filing tax returns or in support of external tax audits.
- Other Duties - Make recommendations within the context of job responsibilities; offer guidance on matters of significance; support other projects, as assigned.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Bachelors degree in a finance or accounting and a licensed CPA.
- Proficient understanding of US GAAP.
- Demonstrated understanding of design, implementation and administration of SOX internal controls framework.
- Proven leadership and managerial experience overseeing the accounting function.
- Minimum of 15+ years of progressive accounting experience working in a US Publicly traded company environment.
- Prior operational experience in FP&A or other business facing roles.
- Experience working in complex ERP environments with a strong understanding of flows into the consolidation tools.
- Experience with SAP, AX or other relevant tier one ERP systems.
- Proven experience implementing consolidation and reporting tools.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills including the ability to clearly present recommendations and summarize complex issues.
- Demonstrate both creative and critical thinking skills.
- Solid strategic planning experience at the divisional and corporate level.
- Proven experience handling multiple duties and completing assigned tasks accurately and on a timely basis.
- Demonstrated strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
- Proven experience challenging the status quo and championing new initiatives. Experience acting as a catalyst for change and stimulating others to change.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, plan and deliver significant process improvements with major financial impact.
- Proficiency with MS Office especially Excel and Powerpoint
- MBA, Preferred
- Experience of planning tools such as Tagetik, BPC, Hyperion or other relevant systems, Preferred
- Experience in a complex manufacturing environment, Preferred
