ABOUT THE ROLE
The Public Affairs and Community Relations Manager, you will help build and scale Holcim’s ongoing work with our communities, local government officials, and other policymakers and stakeholders. Specifically, you will work with Holcim’s public affairs team to craft the community engagement strategy that protects and enhances the reputation of Holcim as a growth business and key community partner. You will be responsible for helping to manage local and regional government relations/issues, stakeholder relations, and community connections and will help manage issues at the state, county, tribal, and local levels that impact, or potentially impact, the current business practices and the future growth and profitability of the company. As the ideal candidate, you will have an established track record of successfully managing government relations programs and possess external and internal political acumen. You work well independently and across teams, are agile, able to reprioritize and shift gears quickly, and comfortable in a high-pressure environment. 

 

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • You will help build and scale Holcim's ongoing work with our communities, local government officials, and other policymakers and stakeholders
  • Establish regular contact with politicians, political advisers, civil servants, non-departmental public bodies, first nations, or regulators to keep them informed about the organization’s work and policy concerns
  • Organize or attend regular meetings with these stakeholders, representing their organization and forging contacts with key decision-makers
  • Report back to colleagues on the content of such meetings and arrange follow-up submissions
  • Monitor proceedings of the county and local government institutions and provide analysis of these for senior staff members
  • Provide internal forecasts of the likely effect of public policy changes on their organization
  • Write or edit submissions to government or regulator consultations
  • Provide written or oral briefings for senior staff members and advise them on contact with decision-makers
  • Build relationships with key local media contacts
  • Keep abreast of important media stories on a daily basis
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • Work hand-in-hand with company lobbyists working to shape our priorities and messaging for legislative and regulatory policy conversations
  • Execute community outreach strategy, ensuring partnerships that align to business needs and objectives
  • Represent Holcim at external meetings, events and ceremonies 

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Education: Bachelor's degree or 5-7 years of relevant experience

Field of Study Preferred: Engineering, Public Affairs, Public Relations, Government Affairs, or related field. A Master’s degree or relevant certification is a plus. 

Required Computer and Software Skills: Microsoft Office applications and ability to develop and manage complex gannt charts.

Travel Requirements: 75% local travel

  • Strong track record: You will have an established track record of successfully managing government relations programs and possess external and internal political acumen
  • High energy and personal drive: You work well independently and across teams, are agile, able to reprioritize and shift gears quickly, and comfortable in a high-pressure environment
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills: Ability to write briefings, project plans, and consultation responses, as well as give presentations internally and externally
  • Great networking skills: More than for most jobs, networking skills are integral to this role. The ideal candidate needs to possess or hone the ability to confidently approach a diverse range of people and strike up a conversation. This needs to be allied to the ability to stay in touch with decision-makers and retain contacts
  • Information gathering and interpreting: The ability to take on board and understand reams of new information is a key skill. The ideal candidate must have the ability to keep abreast of ever-changing political developments and advise on the implications for the organization
  • Political knowledge: An intimate knowledge of the political process in Colorado and regional counties is crucial
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Subject to applicable law, employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
