ABOUT THE ROLE
Holcim US, a leading supplier of quality, construction building materials in the United States, has an immediate opening for Truck Driver RMX to work at our Ready Mix Plant location in Frederick, MD. The position is primarily responsible for safely driving the concrete mixer truck to and from job sites, ensuring proper operation of the vehicle, and following all road safety regulations.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Operating the Truck: Safely driving the concrete mixer truck to and from job sites, ensuring proper operation of the vehicle, and following all road safety regulations.
- Ensuring Concrete Quality: Mixing the concrete according to the specified ratios and ensuring that it meets the required quality standards.
- Delivery and Timeliness: Delivering the concrete to construction sites on time to meet the scheduled deadlines, ensuring the concrete remains in good condition during transport.
- Customer Service: Interacting with customers on-site to ensure that concrete is delivered in the correct amount, and answering any questions regarding the product or delivery process.
- Monitoring Concrete Conditions: Checking the consistency and temperature of the concrete during transit, and adjusting the mix if necessary. This may involve adding water or additives to maintain the mix's workability.
- Pre-Trip Inspection: Performing a daily pre-trip inspection of the truck, including checking tires, brakes, lights, and ensuring that the truck is in good working order.
- Safety Compliance: Adhering to safety protocols, wearing appropriate protective gear (e.g., safety shoes, gloves, etc.), and ensuring safety measures are in place while unloading.

- Cleaning the Truck: Cleaning the mixer drum after every delivery to prevent concrete from hardening inside, and ensuring the truck is properly maintained.
- Handling Adverse Conditions: Managing challenges like weather, road conditions, or construction site access that may affect delivery.
- The role combines technical knowledge of concrete mixing with the practicalities of truck driving, customer service, and safety.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Valid CDL Class A or B: Depending on the size of the truck, a driver may need either a Class A or Class B commercial driver's license. A Class A CDL is typically required for larger vehicles, while a Class B CDL is needed for smaller mixer trucks.
- Clean Driving Record: A history of safe driving is important. Employers often require a clean driving record with no major traffic violations (such as DUI, reckless driving, or accidents) within a specified period.
- Experience driving large trucks or construction vehicles is typically required. This includes knowledge of operating the truck and being familiar with its handling, especially when navigating construction sites, narrow roads, or in adverse weather conditions.
- Knowledge of Concrete and Equipment - Concrete Basics: Familiarity with how concrete is mixed, its properties, and how to transport it. (Preferred)
- Truck Maintenance: Basic understanding of how to maintain the truck and handle its mixer drum to ensure it’s working properly.
- Safety: Knowledge of proper safety procedures related to the vehicle and the concrete itself (e.g., handling additives, working around work zones).
- Good Communication Skills: Drivers often communicate with dispatchers, customers, and construction site workers. Clear communication is essential to ensure the right concrete is delivered to the correct location.
- Ability to Work in All Weather Conditions: Since the job involves outdoor work, drivers should be prepared to drive and operate the truck in all weather conditions, including rain, snow, heat, and cold.
- Attention to Detail: Being able to follow instructions and paying attention to the mix ratios, times, and delivery specifications is critical to ensure that the concrete meets the customer's requirements.
