Description: 

JOB DESCRIPTION: Holcim (US) Inc. seeks an Electrical and Automation Specialist in Hagerstown, MD to be responsible for the Hagerstown Plant’s Process Control System [PCS] specification, alarm system and instrumentation, application programming, testing, hardware implementation and electrical maintenance. The individual applies the PCS as a tool for improvement of plant performance including product quality, rate, availability, OEE and MTBF.  Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure system programming meets with proper safety and environmental compliance.
  • Ensure proper operation of, and troubleshooting of, electrical & instrumentation system components including transmitters, actuators, controllers, motor and drive systems VFDs, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), distributed control systems DCS for process control.
  • Troubleshoot field devices to SCADA and/or PLC I/O points.
  • Calibrating, configuring and repairing of measurement/controls instruments flow, level, pressure and temperature including associate valves and valve actuators.
  • Installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting PLCs, process controls, electrical, instrument, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Work closely with other departments to establish, maintain and manage instruments, installations, standards, control programs, maintenance programs, and certification cycles/programs to meet operational and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain system documentation including but not limited to master equipment files, regulatory compliance files, equipment specifications, and repair history.
  • Evaluate computer control equipment and their components to assure they meet the plant requirements.
  • Define, write and implement changes to existing process control programs. Prevent downtime due to faults; continuous improvement to HMI and programming to both extend life of existing PCS and facilitate eventual replacement.
  • Troubleshoot control system hardware and software problems. Spend the necessary time in the field, verifying and monitoring correct function of the technology applications and devices.
  • Monitor and Troubleshoot Operations Technology (OT) system hardware and software problems. Preferred TIS (Technical Information System), HLC (High level control).
  • Provide knowledge and leadership for plant maintenance and PLC control projects.
  • Assure reliable plant instrumentation equipment operation, including annual certifications.
  • Execute the adjustment, tuning, calibration, and certification (when required) of all applications such that the requirements of data flow, stability, accuracy, and reporting are met.
  • Coordinate electrical and automation contractors on improvement projects.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas. Ensure that safe work practices are being followed by self and promote safety with all other employees and outside contractors. Complies with company and plant defined objectives for leading indicating, including VPC and TITF (Time in the field).

 

This position involves domestic/national travel up to 10% of the time.
 

REQUIREMENTS: The position of Electrical & Automation Specialist requires 5 years of experience in the job offered, as an Electrical Supervisor, Mechatronics Specialist, or in a related process specialist position. The position requires 5 years of experience with each of the following:

  1. Operations Technology (OT) network administration, including client/server architecture, network design and server operating systems 
  2. HMI and PLC programming software 
  3. Conducting maintenance activities with respect to process instrumentation 
  4. SAP, Autocad, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
