Objective & Overview

Cement Plant Millwrighting involves the installation, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of stationary industrial machinery. 

 

Responsibilities

 

Safety:  

  • Promotes a positive safety culture through leadership by example; performs all work activities following all relevant safety policies/procedures ensuring alignment with the company’s vision and critical success factors.

 

Technical Skills:

  • Required to read blueprints, diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures. 

 

Operations:  

  • Millwrights install, align, dismantle and move stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment, such as pumps, fans, tanks, conveyors, furnaces, generators, dust collectors, crushers, mills, kilns and others; according to layout plans using hand and power tools.
  • Responsible to install, troubleshoot and maintain power transmission, vacuum, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and programmable logic controls.
  • Will be responsible to assemble machinery and equipment prior to installation using hand and power tools and welding equipment.

 

Operator Functions:  

  • Millwrights operate hoisting and lifting devices such as cranes, jacks and mobile equipment to position machinery and parts during the installation, set-up and repair of machinery.
  • Also, operate machine tools such as drills and grinders to fabricate parts required during overhaul, maintenance or set-up of machinery.

 

Troubleshooting:  

  • Millwrights inspect and examine machinery and equipment to detect and investigate irregularities and malfunctions. 

 

Maintenance:

  • Millwrights adjust machinery and repair or replace defective parts. Also are responsible to clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on machinery. 


Relationship with Others:

  • Millwrights at the Brookfield plant will work together with other millwrights, electricians and production workers to accomplish assigned work tasks.

 

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Millwrights at the Brookfield must complete the following
  • Participate in plant safety including performing risk assessments before each job. 
  • Housekeeping of the jobs areas and maintenance shops.
  • Maintain good attendance
  • Complete scheduled work on-time and with high quality performance.
  • Provide feedback to the Maintenance Supervisors for work improvements

 

Dimensions

  • Millwrights report to the maintenance supervisors

 

Qualification Profile

  • All applicants must have their Industrial Mechanic Millwright certification from the college of trades or their interprovincial red seal certification

Physical Demands of the Role

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, grasp, handle, or feel.  The employee is required to stand, walk, climb stairs & ladders, reach with hands and arms, work in awkward situations, balance, and stoop, kneel or crouch.
  • Must be trained and comfortable with Working at heights and Confined Spaces
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50+ pounds. 
  • Employees must perform work outdoors in all weather conditions, and will work around moving mechanical parts and equipment.  Various PPE will include safety boots, reflective clothing, safety glasses, gloves and hardhat.  Additional PPE may be required depending upon tasks.
