Overview:

The greater Calgary area ready-mix operation is in search of a motivated individual to join our team as plant maintenance lead hand, execute plant modification or improvement projects, service, troubleshooting, repairs and maintenance. The position is a permanent full time hourly opportunity based out of Calgary.   

 

Responsibilities:

  • The selected candidate will be responsible for their own safety and the safety of others while working, adhering to all policies, procedures, and rules, and executing the role efficiently.

  • Perform the role using individual assets, experience, and knowledge while maintaining professionalism.

  • Use provided equipment and resources responsibly and ensure proper housekeeping of equipment and work areas.

  • Work with various levels of operational plant staff at different locations to monitor and document equipment repairs.

  • Collaborate with plant staff to complete repairs, service, modifications, projects, and maintenance.

  • Complete projects in a timely manner in a fast-paced environment.

  • Be involved in daily plant operations as required.

  • Schedule work with the assistance of plant management.

  • Service, repair, replace, and install motors, gear reducers, drives, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, conveyor belts, screw conveyors, pumps, and wear components.

  • Service, repair, and operate boilers and steam generators.

  • Perform welding, fabrication, and repair on various components of the ready-mix production plant.

 

Relationships with Others:

  • Report to the Operations Support Manager, collaborating with management and plant staff to complete projects, repairs, maintenance, service, and troubleshoot plant operations.

  • Work with and/or lead subcontractors, ensuring they work safely.

  • Work closely with plant staff as part of the team.

  • Coordinate with suppliers and other resources to obtain parts and supplies.

Dimensions:

  • Report to GCA plant management and the operations support manager.

  • Work with 20 plant staff/co-workers, subcontractors (plumbers, electricians, welders, millwrights) as needed.

  • 350,000 + m3 of ready-mix production per year from 7 plants.

  • Fully equipped service truck provided with proper qualification.

Others: 

  • Full-time, hourly position with pension benefits.

  • Competitive wages, negotiable upon interview based on ability and potential. Union-based position.

 

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent ( referred ).

  • WCB welder certification, or 2nd year apprenticeship; Journeyperson certification would be an asset.

  • Active Class 5 driver’s license a minimum, drivers abstract is required upon offer of employment.

Experience & Skill Set:

  • Shop fabrication setting and experience an asset.

  • Individual must be safety orientated, motivated, efficient and able to work independently.

  • Current active safety tickets are an asset but not required.

  • Must be flexible on availability and wiliness to perform all required tasks.

  • Flexibility on availability is required.  Work schedule are not limited to common hours, the individual will be required to fill any daily vacancies in terms of plant operations.

  • A minimum of 2 years in an industrial field setting.

  • WCB certification, welder apprenticeship 2-4th year or journeyman ticket an asset. (required or preferred).

  • Millwright apprentice 2-3rd year, or journeyman ticket an asset.

  • Computer skills are required (Windows, google, excel)

  • Specific training for most specialized tasks is required.
