Overview

Lafarge in Calgary is looking for experienced Yard Operator to join our Precast division. Yard Operators are responsible for managing the organization and handling of materials and equipment within the yard. They participate in housekeeping, maintenance, equipment operation, and other various tasks throughout the plant. A high level of safety practices must be used at all times.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Receive oral instructions to determine work assignments.

  • Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.

  • Operate equipment and machinery, including crane, forklift, loader, bobcat, and shuttle lift, ensuring safety protocols are followed.

  • Assist with hoisting and rigging for lifting and moving heavy materials as necessary.

  • Conduct minor repairs and maintenance on equipment.

  • Remove rubble and other debris in the yard and surrounding areas.

  • Complete Field Level Risk Assessments before beginning each task.

  • Actively participate in continuous improvement on safety initiatives.

  • Maintain good housekeeping in areas of responsibility.

  • Ensure that all yard equipment is operating properly; identify and inform of any issues.

 

Qualification Profile:

 

Education Required:

  • High School Diploma.

 

Years of Experience:

  • 1-2 years is preferred.

 

Specific Experience:

  • Prior experience in an industrial setting would be an asset.

  • Experience operating cranes, forklifts, loaders, bobcats, and shuttle lifts.

  • Familiarity with hoisting and rigging practices.

  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in a noisy plant setting.

  • Safety oriented.

  • Able to lift 50 lbs.

  • Able to work in a fast-paced, high production environment.

  • Willing to work overtime and shifts when needed.

  • Able to work unsupervised.

  • Able to work well with others.

  • Good communication skills
