We are currently seeking a seasonal, full-time Bridge Construction – Operator/ Laborer to join our team our Bridge Maintenance Division in Northern Alberta. Shift is on a 10-days-on, 4-days-off rotation and the work sites is are located between Wabasca and Slave Lake area. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate the ability to work safely and follow safety guidelines

  • Perform permitted labor related duties as assigned (confined space, hot work, work at heights…)

  • Capable of performing physical labour without health or physical concerns

  • Demonstrate the mathematical abilities necessary to accurately measure and plan job site construction

  • Excellent hand-eye coordination needed to operate machinery

  • Knowledge of heavy machinery of all sizes and kinds

  • Inspect each piece of machinery to ensure it is in proper working condition before the start of each shift

  • Perform and carry out excavation or specific digs needed for projects

  • Proficient in reading maps and diagrams of buried pipelines and other utilities

  • Professional demeanor with crew members as well as managers and Owners/ Clients

  • Oversee the safety precautions required when using heavy machinery

  • Work in a team environment to ensure that project timelines are met

  • Determination in completing jobs precisely without oversights

  • Perform work in outdoor construction site settings

  • Ensure all environmental work practices have been implemented and concerns are addressed

 

Qualifications: 

Experience and Competencies

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

  • Willing to work out of town; most of the Bridge projects will be considered remote.

  • Road construction experience is considered an asset

  • Previous experience working on bridge demolition and new bridge construction projects

  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with coworkers

  • This position is primarily a Laborer position with concrete/ earthwork/ assembly skills

  • The operation of equipment may be intermittent, as required

  • The operator must perform other labour activities when operating activities are not required

  • Oversee the safety precautions required when using heavy machinery

  • Operate medium size to small size excavators, front end loaders and skid steer loaders

  • Support subcontractors on site such as crane and rigging operations

  • Work under pressure, near live traffic, around ground personnel and other equipment

  • Must understand and meet all safety requirements and applicable safety policies

  • Willing to work flexible hours, night shifts, weekends and multiple projects.

  • Understand outdoor settings: inclement weather, heat/ humidity; exposure to dust/ smoke

  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 lbs on a regular basis

  • Train new crew members in safety precautions for excavators and other machines

  • Report progress needs or other pertinent information to site managers
