Objective & Overview
Effective management of Quality Control and Quality Processes to ensure aggregates product performance, product cost management, effective reserve utilization and customer satisfaction for the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

 

Responsibilities


Safety:

  •  Implementation of Lafarge Safety Policies, and Compliance with Government Legislation
  • Training and Orientation of all Direct and Departmental Staff
  • Completion of Job Hazard Analysis for QC Job Functions
  • Development and Implementation of Safety Improvement Plans
  • Support the QC department H&S leadership with other functions and on sites 

 

Aggregate Product Performance:

  • Establish programs and accountabilities to ensure compliance of all products with relevant Codes, Standards, and Specifications
  • Establish, monitor and communicate Aggregate KPI performance with key stakeholders as required – investigate variances from Plan and establish corrective actions as required
  • Lead the development and implementation of specific actions to reduce and/or utilize long products, including innovating new combination materials
  • Provide a critical technical link between Sales and Operational staff to ensure alignment of product performance vs customer expectations.
  • Work with Regional Technical Performance team to review of all large Project Specifications; Recommendation of Appropriate Alternatives products in Support of Marketing/Sales Initiatives, and in compliance with relevant codes, standards and specifications
  • Work with Regional Technical Performance teams for preparation and submission Documentation requested by Customers in Accordance with Lafarge Policy
  • Work with Regional Technical Performance teams for SAP management, Production/Shipping and KPI Reporting.
  • Develop strategies for long product utilization, manufactured sand products, Aggneo, circular economy and others at Aggregates sites.

 

Quality management & certifications:

  • Lead Quality Audits, including the development and implementation of Action Plans for Quality Improvement
  • Lead plants certifications preparation and audits 
  • Prepare Statistical Analyses of Plant Operation Performance, and Lead Investigative Efforts to Identify Root Causes and Implement Corrective Actions
  • Support Regional Technical Performance teams for the Market Item AG codes, Production/Shipping and KPI Reporting.

 

Technical Support:

  • Develop strategies with Sales and Product Management teams to provide recommendation of Appropriate Alternatives products in Support of Marketing/Sales Initiatives, and in compliance with relevant codes, standards and specifications
  • Perform Quality Audits, Develop Action Plans for Quality Improvement and Monitor Progress of Implementation
  • Analyses of Plant Operation Performance, and Lead Investigative Efforts to Identify Root Causes and Implement Corrective Actions
  • Provide Expert Customer Support – Field Sales Support and Quality Incident Investigation and Resolution
  • Provide technical expertise to Operations regarding Mining Plan development and Execution, in order to maximize Reserve Life of Sites
  • Develops material application training program to demonstrate the impact to the downstream products (RMX, HMA, Pre-cast, etc.) for Operational Personnel.
  • Develop, Standardize and Implement Quality Plans and Processes
  • Represent Lafarge as Required at Industry/Trade Associations and Technical Committees
  • Promote Lafarge Innovative Products to the Specifying Community. Build relationships with Provincial Materials, Municipal and specifying engineers and major commercial specifying engineers to drive value for the customer and Lafarge.
  • Develops a Technical Sales Support program to include internal sales and marketing training with regards to aggregates and material application, external customer training to understand the value of Lafarge aggregates, leverages technical expertise across the Market Areas to drive value for our customers and Lafarge
  • Develop product development strategies with the Sales team and Regional Technical Manager, utilizing new and/or innovative products 

 

Human Resources:

  • Hire, Train and Develop Technical Staff within the Department/Product Lines for Promotion either within or outside QC
  • Local Succession Planning


Financial Accountability:

  • Prepare and manage annual Budget and participate in monthly review process
  • Establish and manage processes to optimize production targets to ensure products meet standards and customer expectations at the lowest cost possible.
  • Minimize potential Cost of Quality Claims


Relationship with Others:

  • Liaison with Operational and Sales Staff
  • Establishment of Product Performance Goals and Objectives ensuring alignment across functions
  • Minimization/Utilization of Long Products
  • Root Cause Analysis and Reporting of Product Quality Incidents
  • Technical support for all products 
  • Support Mining Plans
  • Support strategies for commercial and operational plans
  • Troubleshooting/Customer Service
  • Liaison with Regional and Market Area QA, Marketing
  • Quality Safety Initiatives
  • Development and Implementation of Quality Strategies

  • Two (2) direct reports overseeing up to 20 employees
  • 6 laboratories covering the QC activities of 16 sites producing 13 Millions Tons/year of aggregate products

 

Qualification Profile

  • Minimum 3 years College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology with 10 years of related experience, CET Designation
  • University Degree in Engineering preferred with 5 years related experience, P. Eng. license
  • Strong team management experience with demonstrated leadership skills
  • Strong communication and analytical skills
  • Geology background is a plus
  • Technical, sales or operation experience in aggregates, RMX and Asphalt are a plus
