Overview

 

The Yard and Equipment Operator 1 responsible for supporting the efficient and safe operation of the concrete production facility. This role involves various tasks related to material handling, organization, and maintenance within the yard to ensure a smooth workflow and timely delivery of ready-mixed concrete to construction sites.

 

Responsibilities: 

 

Health & Safety:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environment areas, as well as document near misses to management team along with plant/yard safety issues.
  • Ensure all aspects of their role are executed in a safe manner.

 

Operations:

  • Ensure assigned equipment is inspected, operated and maintained to original equipment manufacturer specifications and industry best practices.
  • Perform daily inspections as part of preventative maintenance program to ensure maintenance is scheduled and completed as required.
  • Help plant operator with beginning of day/end of day tasks
  • Load and unload raw materials, including aggregates and admixtures, using appropriate equipment such as forklifts or front-end loaders.
  • Create and manage stockpiles of materials, ensuring they are positioned safely and efficiently
  • Load/unload trucks with outgoing/incoming shipments
  • Transport rubble to designated dumping areas and spread it evenly to facilitate proper disposal.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations during dumping activities.

 

Plant Image:

  • Maintains the plant in accordance with standard guidelines for plant image.
  • Plant image includes housekeeping, parts storage, and equipment condition (cleanliness and appearance), entrance & property, and buildings.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work space.

 

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Safety Performance objective is “Zero”
  • Effective and efficient utilization of all company resources

  • Implementation and adherence of Company Policies
  • Utilization of best practices and operational management tools
  • Relevant experience in a plant environment performing similar duties is preferred
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications: 

 

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Experience with heavy machinery/equipment is an asset
  • Open to flexible working schedule, dependable, positive and helpful attitude
  • Be a team player and work well with others in a high-pressure environment
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures related to heavy equipment operation
  • Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the job, which may include, but are not limited to: working outdoors in potentially extreme weather conditions, lifting up to 50 lbs., etc

  • Must be willing to work various shifts including evenings, nights, weekends and/or holidays and extended hours as required
