Objective
The primary responsibility of the Mosport Site Lead (MSL) Excess Soil is to ensure that Excess Soil projects in Mosport run safely, smoothly and in compliance with Lafarge requirements. The MSL will be responsible for training new employees, enforcing onsite requirements, tracking project progress, ensuring regulatory compliance and communicating project status to the Senior Manager of Excess Soils - GTA & SW. Success in this role is measured by project quality, timeliness, budget compliance and degree of customer, host operation and stakeholder satisfaction.

 

This role relies on a broad scope of competencies including:

  • Project & contractor coordination;
  • Risk & compliance management; and

 

The MSL consistently contributes to ensure excellence in safety, operations, regulatory compliance, sustainability, customer service and supplier/contractor relationship management.

 

Pay: starting at $24.50 per hour.

 

Responsibilities

 

Safety Culture:

  • Promote safety culture through engagement with site employees, H&S, and subcontractors with an objective of “zero” safety incidents.
  • Administer, promote and review safety policies, processes and procedures to maintain relevance while ensuring the site meets or exceeds all company and regulatory guidelines.
  • Assist in the implementation and management of all local and regional safety initiatives, providing feedback as necessary.

 

Project Coordination: Direct and coordinate excess soil imports including but not limited to:

  • Project start up communication - communicate Lafarge protocols and guidelines with new customers (i.e. Hours of Operations, Site Circulation, Site Rules, Hauler Requirements, LH Excess Soil Importation H&S Guidelines)
  • Implement and enforce operational controls to prevent H&S hazards.
  • Ensure excess soil hauler, customer and contractor compliance with Lafarge H&S Guidelines and issue notification in the event of non-compliance.
  • Implement and enforce operational controls to prevent environmental impacts.
  • Report regularly on project costs and status of operational control.
  • Coordinate internal resources and third party contractors. Support procurement efforts and ongoing management of change orders as they relate to contractor scope of work.
  • Identify instances where changes in scope of work necessitate changes to operational controls to prevent H&S hazards.
  • Identify instances where changes in scope of work necessitate changes to operational controls to prevent environmental impacts.
  • Responsibility for project site visitor management in accordance with Lafarge policy and procedures.

 

Operational Results: Responsible for achieving operational performance (volume/safety) objectives.

  • Contractor management - managing equipment (bulldozers, environmental controls - sweeper/water trucks) requirements based on demand
  • Tracking and managing spend to budget

 

Environmental Excellence: Prevent adverse effects.

  • Enforce project site level compliance with province and Lafarge-wide standards and requirements.

 

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Track and control projects using Excess Soil tools provided (i.e. SoilFlo, SiteDocs, etc.)
  • Soil accounting - ensure sampling is completed in accordance with Lafarge’s Excess Soil Protocol.
  • Generate reports as required for management and for stakeholder engagement purposes.

 

People Development/Management: Understand, support and develop the needs of team members through safety and operational awareness.

  • Work closely with Operations Supervisor for site requirements and day to day scheduling
  • Conduct morning safety huddles
  • Train new hires
  • Re-enforce H&S rules and policies for all employees

 

Projects / ad-hoc: support and coordinate Mosport site enhancements (i.e. Mosport site alteration requirements)

  • Invoice management (i.e. soil sampling, etc)
  • Ticket entry (i.e. SoilFlo to Apex)

 

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Project-level coordination, monitoring, control and performance.
  • Safety leadership and continued development of Safety Culture.
  • Implementation and enforcement of site level operational controls.
  • Effective engagement of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with coordinating contractors, visitors and customers on site.
  • Daily, weekly and monthly project reporting using standardized tools.
  • Collecting market intelligence and thoroughly understanding the excess soil market in the assigned territory.
  • Performing effective administration in order to ensure environmental compliance
  • Communicate in a professional and concise manner.

 

Relationships with Others Jobs:

  • Reports to the Senior Manager - Excess Soil GTA & SW
  • Works closely with various internal stakeholders in continuous collaboration.
  • This includes, but is not limited to operational staff and compliance functions (Land, Environment, H&S, etc.).

 

Dimensions:

  • Support Excess Soil material placement in Mosport.
  • Supervises 2+ Excess Soil Field Technicians

 

Work Environment and Travel:

  • This role requires working outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions (~80%).
  • Frequent travel among project sites within the sub-market area will be required.

 

Qualification Profile

 

Education & Work Experience:

  • An undergraduate degree in business or engineering technology, or significant industry experience.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry is an asset, but not essential.
  • Knowledge of waste management and environmental regulations is an asset, but not essential.
