ABOUT THE ROLE

Lafarge Canada is currently seeking skilled and safety-oriented Base Crew Equipment Operators to join our construction team in Saskatoon, SK. The successful candidates will operate heavy equipment to assist with the preparation, grading, and construction of base layers for roadways, parking lots, and other infrastructure projects. This role plays a key part in ensuring high-quality workmanship and productivity on our civil construction projects.

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Safely operate a variety of heavy equipment, including but not limited to dozers, graders, loaders, skid steers, and rollers to support base preparation and placement activities.

  • Follow grade stakes, blueprints, and verbal instructions to achieve proper slopes, elevations, and compaction.

  • Assist with site preparation and set-up, including traffic control and placement of safety barriers when required.

  • Communicate effectively with crew members, foremen, and supervisors to ensure smooth workflow and job site safety.

  • Ensure work is performed in compliance with company and project specifications and quality standards.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to health, safety, and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOREducation: 

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Work Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment in road construction or civil works

Required Training/Certifications: Valid Class 5 Driver’s License required; Class 1 or 3 with Air Brakes Endorsement is an asset; G Endorsement is an asset; safety certifications (CSTS, WHMIS, First Aid) are assets

Required Technical Skills: Ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment safely and efficiently; knowledge of grading techniques, compaction, and construction drawings

Travel Requirements: Knowledge of the City of Saskatoon and surrounding area

Additional Requirements:

  • Able to work in fast-pace environment

  • Must be physically fit for repetitive tasks, including lifting, bending, kneeling, sitting, and standing for long periods.

  • Perform general labor duties as required, including raking, shoveling, and material handling.

  • Perform daily pre-operational inspections of equipment, ensuring that machinery is in safe working condition.

  • Conduct basic maintenance, cleaning, and fueling of equipment as needed.

  • Experience with TopCon and Trimble GPS equipment is an asset.

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim-approved Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including but not limited to respirators. Employees required to wear respirators must be clean-shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
