Overview

The prime objective of the Maintenance Planner is to improve the efficiency and productivity of maintenance own personnel and third party maintenance services through a good planning, follow up and optimization of all preventive and corrective maintenance tasks. In addition to achieve the set targets for equipment availability / reliability at the lowest optimum and sustainable maintenance cost, in collaboration with all involved departments or sub-departments, following the maintenance guidelines (CIF and MAC) defined by the company.


Responsibilities

 

Health, Safety and Environment:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to communication, improvement and adherence to safety policies on all work environments and with employees, subcontractors and site visitors. Identifies, plans and collaborates with the Environment team for compliance with legislation and policies. Knowledge and support of the cement plant’s ISO 14001 environmental management system including awareness of the specific responsibilities described in the program. Ensure that any changes to plant equipment are verified by Health, Safety and Environment Managers and other departments to ensure that corporate and regulatory requirements are met.

 

Maintenance Planning:

  • Plan all work orders by assigning the required parts, tools, procedures, drawings, and resources to the work. Plan the weekly, monthly, yearly and long-term maintenance plans. Examine and priories maintenance activities with team members.

 

Maintenance Preparation:

  • Ensures that short-term maintenance activities are included in the execution schedule according to the priority given, that the equipment and permit are available before adding the work to the plan.

 

Shutdowns:

  • Support maintenance activities for major/annual shutdowns as required assisting the major shutdowns planner.

 

Equipment Availability:

  • Contribute to the reliability of the equipment by daily review of maintenance request and collaborating with production and inspectors to assess priority and criticality of maintenance activities. Provide technical and operational support along with applying and reviewing maintenance procedures and systems. 

 

Scope of work:

  • Write a detailed scope of work for all major work. Identify skills required 

 

Inventory:

  • Generate and follow up purchase requests for materials, spare and wear parts, ensuring just in time delivery. Work closely with stores and purchasing personnel to ensure that inventory levels are maintained to an optimal level without compromising plant reliability or the effective completion of mechanical tasks.

 

Equipment catalogue:

  • Ensure the equipment parts catalog (both in SAP and equipment folders) reflects all plant equipment changes and obtain proper resource for future upgrades so that the catalog continues to be a reliable reference tool for the whole plant

 

Maintenance Performance:

  • Track all statistics related to the Maintenance Department Activities (KPI) i.e: repeat work, PM compliance, machinery failure, MTBF, Equipment net availability, etc. Ensure productivity, housekeeping and quality of work standards are maintained within the mechanical maintenance department through sound planning and practices.

 

Maintenance Cost:

  • Plans for cost effective maintenance activities aiming for optimization of resources e.g. people, contractors, spares and equipment downtime. Estimates, tracks and controls the cost of maintenance work orders. Adjust maintenance planning accordingly to remain within budgetary constraints.

 

Communication:

  • Acts as the main point of contact between the maintenance team and operations group to ensure optimum maintenance, reliability and availability of the equipment.

 

Operational Meeting:

  • Represent the maintenances team in the operational meetings, determine maintenance priorities, plan shutdown period and optimize maintenance during those times.

 

Continual Improvement:

  • Continually review and evaluate methods, processes, tools, equipment to optimize the maintenance function.
  • Follows the performance of the established maintenance performance indicators and implements corrective measures for continuous improvement 

 

Subcontractors:

  • Plan and coordinate work carried out by third parties. Oversees third party work in order to support maintenance activities.

 

Relationships with Others Jobs:

  • The role reports directly to the Preventative Maintenance Engineer.
  • The Maintenance Planner works closely with the various managers and supervisors who influence and/or manage the overall maintenance of the plant.  
  • The Maintenance Planner is in direct contact with the employees of the various departments in order to exchange best practices and integrate them in the preparation of the work.

 

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for the planning of all the daily and major maintenance activities of the department before they are ready for execution by assigning the required parts, tools, procedures, drawings, and outside resources to the work.
  • Update and maintain the department files and historical data related to the maintenance work.
  • Ensure productivity, housekeeping and quality of work standards are maintained within the mechanical maintenance department through sound planning practices.
  • Act in a matter to optimize the key performance indicators of the plant, both Maintenance and Production

Qualifications

 

Education & Work Experience:

  • College degree in industrial maintenance.
  • Extensive experience in heavy industrial equipment repair; experience in inspection and welding an asset.
  • Excels in planning major work and plant shutdowns using computer software 
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance System (SAP)
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience in a heavy industry. Cement experience an asset.

 
Knowledge and skills:

  • Knowledge of problem solving techniques (i.e. Pareto Analysis, Root Cause Failure Analysis, etc.)
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Strong communicator (both oral & written).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to interact with plant personnel.
  • Highly motivated with ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving organizational and personal goals.
  • Proven ability to work well in a team environment (co-workers, suppliers, etc.)
  • Well organized and systematic.
