Objective

 

Effectively manage product quality control and quality processes to ensure performance, manage costs, use reserves efficiently and ensure customer satisfaction.

 

Primary Responsibilities

 

Safety

  • Implement safety policies in compliance with government legislation.
  • Oversee the implementation of occupational risk analyses of QC tasks; develop and oversee the implementation of risk reduction plans. 
  • Execute and implement laboratory/QC safety improvement plans.
  • Coordinate relevant safety training for all technicians supervised.

 

Asphalt product performance

  • Develop, manage and optimize the LafargeHolcim standard in accordance with relevant standards, specifications and codes.
  • Collaborate with plant operations to ensure process accuracy and quality using tools such as process accuracy, standard deviation and coefficient of variation reports.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators and communicate them to primary stakeholders as required. 
  • Check deviations from targets and implement corrective measures as needed.
  • Manage and lead the quality incident investigation, problem resolution and corrective measure processes.
  • Set up a case study database.
  • Maintain the Quality Incident Reporting system (QIR). 
  • Collaborate with regional sales teams to review project specifications and recommend appropriate mixes in compliance with relevant codes, standards and specifications to support marketing/sales initiatives. 
  • Collaborate with the regional technical performance team in the preparation and presentation of technical documents on mixes requested by customers, in accordance with Lafarge policy. 
  • Develop, evaluate and adjust asphalt mixes and add them to SAP. 
  • Track targets and ensure that minimum sampling frequencies set out in the quality plan are met.
  • When required, participate in daily control tests.

 

Aggregate product performance

  • Develop, modify and implement programs and processes to ensure product compliance with codes, standards and specifications.
  • Oversee the local implementation of Lafarge’s quality plan, including sample collection, reporting and follow-up for all products as determined for each site under your responsibility.
  • Ensure tracking, documentation and communication of aggregate performance QIRs with key stakeholders, as required; investigate discrepancies and establish corrective actions with operations, if necessary.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of site-specific measures for the use of alternative products, including innovative material combinations.
  • Provide a point of view to ensure alignment between sales and operations personnel so that product performance meets customer expectations.
  • Support and implement strategies for using alternative products, manufactured sand products, Aggneo, the circular economy and others at aggregate sites.
  • When required, participate in daily control tests.

 

Quality management and certifications

  • Support the preparation and submission of LEED documentation.
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of technical personnel.
  • Participate in or oversee safety audits, including the development and implementation of quality improvement action plans.
  • Oversee ISO 9001:2015 certification activities for the quarry and paving plant  (preparation and audit).
  • Prepare statistical analyses of plant operating performance, oversee investigative efforts to determine major causes of variances and implement corrective measures  (aggregate and asphalt).
  • Track the calibration of laboratory and plant equipment at the established intervals. Conduct an impact study when a calibration non-conformity is detected.

 

Technical support

  • Support sales and product management teams in recommending appropriate replacement products to promote marketing/sales initiatives in compliance with relevant codes, standards and specifications. 
  • Keep technical documentation up to date and track the submission of documentation requested by customers, in accordance with Lafarge policy.
  • Provide professional customer support, i.e. field sales support and quality issue investigation and problem resolution.
  • Liaise with customers to verify acceptability of product performance and gather information for potential product innovation and improvement.
  • Support product development, use innovative products and review project specifications before a bidding process. 

 

Human Resources

  • Hire, train, evaluate and develop quality control technicians for the site under your responsibility.
  • Guide direct reports in accordance with Lafarge’s performance appraisal system.
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of technical personnel (quality technicians); track raw materials and their consistency, strategic sampling plans, plant and site testing activities, product support and product problem resolution.

 

Financial Responsibilities

  • Limit the potential cost of quality-related complaints.
  • Ensure efficient use of the resources provided and optimize costs where possible.

 

Relationships with Other Jobs

  • Liaise with operational and sales personnel
  • Communicate product performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Minimize/use alternative products.
  • Analyze the main causes of deviations and report quality incidents.
  • Support mining projects.
  • Support commercial and operational strategies.
  • Resolve problems and provide customer service related to product quality.
  • Liaise with  regional and market sector quality assurance and with the property management group.

Qualification Profile

 

Education & Work Experience

  • Minimum three (3) year college diploma (DEC) in civil engineering technology
  • University degree in engineering – eligible for licensure as an engineer
  • Five (5) to eight (8) years’ experience in quality control of asphalt mixes and their components
