Excess Soils Operations Supervisor

ABOUT THE ROLE
The primary responsibility of the Excess Soil (ES) Operations Supervisor is to ensure that Excess Soil projects run safely, smoothly, and in compliance with Lafarge requirements. The ES Supervisor will be responsible for training new employees, enforcing onsite requirements, tracking project progress, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
This role relies on a broad scope of competencies including:

This role contributes to excellence in safety, production, regulatory compliance, sustainability, customer service, and supplier/contractor relationship management.
WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

- Coordinate project start-up communications, including Lafarge protocols and guidelines for new customers (e.g., Hours of Operations, Site Circulation, Site Rules, Hauler Requirements, LH Excess Soil Importation H&S Guidelines).
- Implement and enforce operational controls to prevent Health & Safety hazards, such as project site circulation plans, and environmental impacts.
- Ensure excess soil hauler, customer, and contractor compliance with Lafarge H&S Guidelines, issuing notifications in case of non-compliance.
- Report regularly on project costs and the status of operational controls.
- Coordinate internal resources and third-party contractors, supporting procurement efforts and managing change orders related to contractor scope of work.
- Identify instances where changes in scope of work necessitate adjustments to operational controls to prevent Health & Safety hazards.
- Prevent adverse effects and impacts to the environment by enforcing project site-level compliance requirements.
- Track and control projects using provided digital tools, ensuring soil accounting and sampling are completed in accordance with Lafarge’s Excess Soil Protocol.
- Generate reports as required for management and stakeholder engagement purposes.
- Ensure follow-through on Excess Soil commitments made to community stakeholders.
- Understand, support, and develop the needs of team members through safety and operational awareness.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Education: High school degree or equivalent. A diploma in construction, engineering, or environmental fields is an asset.
- Required Work Experience: Knowledge, awareness, or experience of the construction and/or mining industry.
- Required Technical Skills: Ability to use computers, mobile smartphones, and digital applications.
- Travel Requirements: Frequent travel among receiving sites within the sub-market will be required (e.g., Fonthill, Hagersville, Cambridge, Dundas, Caledon, Greeks, Stouffville, Mosport).
Additional Requirements:
- This role requires working outside (heat/cold/wet/dry conditions).
- Comfort working safely around heavy mobile equipment.
- Excellent people skills, capable of developing effective working relationships internally and externally.
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
