Lafarge Canada Inc is currently accepting resumes for a ticketed Heavy Duty Mechanic/Commercial Transport Mechanic. This is a skilled position which primarily involves preventative maintenance and repair of a large fleet of commercial transport vehicles including concrete mixer trucks, dump trucks, trailers, forklifts and light-duty trucks.

 

This position will work primarily out of the shop located at our Kent Avenue Plant in south Vancouver and will be on the afternoon shift. Typical hours of work for this position will be 11:00 am – 7:00 Tuesday to Saturday. As operationally required and in accordance with the collective agreement, the start time and work location may be altered from time to time.

 

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on Cement  Mixers and supporting Heavy Equipment
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance to identify and address potential problems before they escalate.
  • Troubleshoot and repair engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, and other components of heavy equipment.
  • Replace faulty or worn-out parts and components using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Follow manufacturer specifications, repair manuals, and technical guidelines during repairs and maintenance activities.
  • Complete work orders and maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and labor hours.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and equipment operators to identify equipment issues and provide guidance on preventive maintenance practices.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols during all maintenance and repair activities.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in Commercial Transport technology and repair techniques.
  • Journeyperson/ Red Seal Commercial Transport Mechanic or Heavy Duty Mechanic with on road experience
  • Knowledge of Cummins and Paccar engines
  • Knowledge and ability to inspect, test, diagnose, assess, troubleshoot, repair and replace electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • In-depth knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and other heavy equipment components.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Experience in construction industry is an asset

Education & Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • C. Certificate of Qualification, and/or Interprovincial Ticket as a Commercial Transport
  • Mechanic, or Heavy Duty Mechanic Ticket
  • Class 1 or Class 3 driver’s license with air is an asset
  • Province of British Columbia Commercial Vehicle Inspectors Certificate is an asset
  • Forklift Certificate and experience is an asset
  • First aid certification an asset
