Maintenance Technician

Objective & Overview
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for safely installing and maintaining machinery and supporting structures according to manufacturer’s specifications at the Woodstock Plant. The Incumbent will have a strong understanding of the Lafarge commitment to Health and Safety. In addition, the Maintenance Technician will be responsible for Preventative Maintenance and Continuous Improvements on equipment and repairs on all production/facility related equipment.
Responsibilities
- Safety: Promotes a positive safety culture through leadership by example; performs all work activities following all relevant safety policies/procedures ensuring alignment with the company’s vision and critical success factors.
- Technical Skills: Required to read blueprints, diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
- Operations: Install, align, dismantle and move stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment, such as pumps, fans, tanks, conveyors, and generators according to layout plans using hand and power tools. Responsible to install, troubleshoot and maintain power transmission, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and programmable logic controls. Will be responsible to assemble machinery and equipment prior to installation using hand and power tools, welding equipment and torches.
- Operator Functions: Operate hoisting and lifting devices such as cranes, jacks and tractors to position machinery and parts during the installation, set-up and repair of machinery. Also operate machine tools such as drills and grinders to fabricate parts required during overhaul, maintenance or set-up of machinery.
- Troubleshooting: Inspect and examine machinery and equipment to detect and investigate irregularities and malfunctions.
- Maintenance: Adjust machinery and repair or replace defective parts. Also are responsible to clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on machinery as part of the PM program.
Relationship with Others
Maintenance Technicians in Woodstock will work together with a team of Maintenance Technicians and interact with production workers to accomplish assigned work tasks.
Specific Accountabilities:
Maintenance Technicians at Woodstock must complete the following:
- Participate in plant safety including performing risk assessments before each job
- Maintain good attendance
- Complete scheduled work on-time
- Provide feedback to the Production Supervisor for work improvements
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
- The employee frequently is required to stand, walk climb stairs & ladders, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear and smell as well as work in awkward situations, balance, stoop, kneel or crouch
- The employee is frequently required to sit and operate mobile equipment
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and rarely lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, colour vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Employee will perform work outdoors in all weather conditions and will work around moving mechanical parts and equipment.
- The role will include working at heights and confined spaces, appropriate training will be given as needed.
Dimensions
Maintenance Technicians report to the Production Supervisor
Qualification Profile
- Preference will be given to those that possess their Industrial Mechanic Millwright certification from the college of trades or their interprovincial red seal certification
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an industrial environment, preferably in a slag/grinding/cement manufacturing environment.
- Must possess good welding skills properly utilize various welding and cutting equipment.
