HERACLES Group, Greece's leading company in the field of building materials and a member of HOLCIM, is seeking a dynamic Quarry Manager, based at our Volos Plant.

 

Role & Key Accountabilities

The Quarry Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient and cost-effective operation of the quarry/quarries, with the aim of optimizing the utilization of available resources and mineral reserves, ensuring quality and productivity, as well as full compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental requirements.

The position requires strong leadership skills, operational understanding, experience in managing teams and contractors, as well as a focus on continuous improvement and operational excellence.

  • Health & Safety: Ensure safe and healthy working conditions, implement the safety action plan and ensure strict compliance with all Health & Safety rules and procedures.
  • Production: Participate in quarry planning and define the monthly production plan, in line with market needs and business requirements.
  • Extraction: Optimize drilling and blasting operations, monitor the relevant parameters and ensure compliance with applicable legislation.
  • Processing: Oversee processing stages and collaborate with Maintenance and Quality teams to optimize productivity, cost, quality and overall performance.
  • Inventory & Distribution Management: Ensure the proper implementation of inventory procedures and the efficient loading and dispatch of products.
  • Cost & Budget Management: Monitor performance against budget and key KPIs, take corrective actions and participate in the budgeting and forecasting process.
  • People Management: Organize the team, define objectives and responsibilities, assess performance and identify training and development needs in collaboration with HR.
  • Contractor Management: Select, coordinate and supervise external contractors for extraction, drilling, blasting, maintenance and other quarry activities.
  • Maintenance: Define and monitor the maintenance plan, in collaboration with the relevant function, with the aim of ensuring equipment availability and reliable operation.
  • Quality: Ensure the implementation of quality procedures and collaborate with the relevant functions to meet customer needs.
  • Environment: Implement environmental action plans, ensure compliance with applicable legislation and carry out the required rehabilitation activities.
  • New Projects & Investments: Participate in technical and financial studies for new investments and monitor the implementation of new projects and the required testing prior to start-up.
  • External Relations: Develop effective relationships with local authorities, neighboring communities and other external stakeholders, representing the company where required.

 

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Engineering degree, preferably in Mining & Metallurgical Engineering.
  • Professional Experience: At least 5 years of experience in a quarrying, mining, aggregates production or related industrial environment, with experience in a position of responsibility.
  • Health & Safety: Strong knowledge of and focus on the implementation of Health & Safety rules and procedures, with strict commitment to compliance.
  • Technical Knowledge: Good knowledge of extraction, drilling and blasting, loading, internal transportation and material processing operations.
  • Environment: Understanding of the environmental requirements governing quarry operations and experience in implementing environmental actions and rehabilitation plans.
  • Management & Financial Skills: Experience in budget and cost management, KPIs and production performance.
  • Leadership Skills: Ability to manage, develop and motivate teams, with effective communication and collaboration with different functions and external partners.
  • Personal Attributes: Decisiveness, accountability, organizational skills, analytical thinking and a results-oriented approach with a focus on continuous improvement.
