ABOUT THE ROLE
 Lafarge Canada, a leading supplier of construction materials, is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our Calgary Aggregates team. The role involves managing Product Quality Control and Quality Processes to ensure product performance, cost management, effective reserve utilization, and customer satisfaction.

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Implement Lafarge Quality Program including sampling, testing, reporting, and follow-up for all products as determined for each site.

  • Ensure compliance of all products with relevant Codes, Standards, and Specifications.

  • Record, monitor, and communicate Aggregate KPI performance with key stakeholders; investigate variances and establish corrective actions.

  • Participate in or lead site-specific actions to reduce and utilize long products and innovate new combination materials.

  • Provide technical support through participation in quality audits and development of action plans.

  • Assist in development and implementation of product performance knowledge for Operations staff.

  • Execute safety policies including safety induction of visitors, job hazard analyses, and lab/QC safety improvement plans.

  • Collaborate closely with Production Staff, Distribution Staff, and Sales Territory Manager to align product performance with customer expectations.

  • Ensure efficient utilization of resources and optimize costs where possible.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Required Work Experience: Preferably in construction materials such as aggregates, asphalt, and concrete.
Required Training/Certifications: Must possess a valid G-class driver’s license.


Additional Requirements: 

  • Availability for shift work; ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects for short and long periods.

  • Strong communication and computer skills. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Must adhere to all Lafarge safety policies and government legislation.

  • Ability to perform physical activities as required, including lifting, bending, and twisting.

  • Must participate in safety inductions and implement Job Hazard Analyses and Safety Improvement Plans.

  • Commitment to continuous safety and quality improvement.

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
