ABOUT THE ROLE 

As a Rubber Tire Roller Operator, you will be responsible for operating rubber tire rollers to compact asphalt, soil, and gravel on road construction projects. You will work closely with the project team to ensure that proper compaction levels are achieved to meet project specifications. This role is essential to the construction process, ensuring that roadways are smooth, durable, and compliant with safety standards.

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Operate rubber tire rollers to compact asphalt, soil, and gravel during road construction projects.

  • Follow project specifications to ensure correct compaction and smoothness of road surfaces.

  • Inspect and maintain the rubber tire roller to ensure it is functioning properly before, during, and after operation.

  • Collaborate with the project team to ensure efficient and safe operation of the roller equipment.

  • Monitor compaction results and adjust equipment or technique as necessary to meet specifications.

  • Perform daily checks of the equipment and ensure it is in good working order. Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations while operating the rubber tire roller.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to health, safety, and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Education: High school diploma or equivalent; certification in operating heavy machinery is preferred.
Additional Education Preferred: Certification or relevant training in operating rubber tire rollers or similar heavy equipment.
Field of Study Preferred: Construction, heavy equipment operation, or related fields.
Required Work Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience operating rubber tire rollers or similar heavy equipment in road construction projects.
Required Training/Certifications: Valid driver's license; certification in heavy equipment operation
Required Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating rubber tire rollers and other heavy equipment; understanding of compaction processes and safety standards in road construction.

Travel Requirements: Frequent travel between job sites within the City of Edmonton and surrounding areas

Additional Requirements:

  • Monitor project costs and financial reports, providing valuable feedback to the operations and estimating teams.

  • Act as the direct liaison with clients, consultants, and owners to ensure customer satisfaction and successful project delivery.

  • Work with the accounting team to meet cash collection and financial targets.

  • Assist in preparing monthly progress invoices, reviewing accruals, and approving supplier and subcontractor invoices.

  • For smaller projects, ensure project plans, coding, and locates are distributed to supervisors and crews in a timely manner.

  • Lead all safety and environmental aspects on projects, ensuring compliance with OH&S and environmental regulations. Promote Lafarge’s safety culture.

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
