ABOUT THE ROLE

Lafarge is looking for a Boat Crew Operator, who will play a critical role in the transportation of site personnel to and from the mine site on a regular daily schedule with possibility of other transport as required. They are responsible for operating and maintaining boats to ensure transportation is completed in a safe manner following company policies and procedures. In addition to operating the vessel, they also serve as assisting with loading and unloading cargo, securing materials, and general cleaning duties when not operating the crew boat. 

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Navigation and Operation: Safely navigate and operate the crew boat, adhering to all maritime regulations and company policies. Supervise safe and balanced loading/unloading of passengers and cargo. Maintain accurate logs of all voyages—passengers, cargo, routes, weather, and incidents.
  • Janitorial: Perform cleaning tasks at the mine site (offices, restrooms, common areas, etc.). Monitor and restock cleaning supplies and custodial equipment.
  • Safety: Act as the primary responder to onboard emergencies and ensure crew members are trained in procedures. Conduct safety drills and checks, ensure all safety equipment is maintained and accessible, and provide safety briefings to passengers and crew.
  • Administrative Tasks: Support with administrative duties as required by management.
  • Maintenance: Oversee routine maintenance of the vessel, including engine checks, fuel levels, and general upkeep.
  • Communication: Maintain clear communication with port authorities, dispatch, and other vessels.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with maritime regulations and environmental laws.
  • Equipment Care: Properly use and maintain equipment, reporting any malfunctions.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Required Training/Certifications: Commercial Boat Operators License, Small Vessel Operator Training, Marine Radio Training, First Aid Level 1 and Transportation Endorsement (desirable but not required).
Years of Experience: 1 year of experience in a similar field. 

Schedule: Based on a two week rotating shift from 5:30AM-2:00PM and 2:30PM-11:30PM

  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Willing to work overtime and shifts when needed
  • Able to work unsupervised

  • Mechanically Inclined
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
