Description: 

ABOUT THE ROLE 
Lafarge's Sundance Reclamation Facility near Lake Wabamun reclaims landfilled ash and repurposes it for use in concrete manufacturing. The facility is the first of its kind to utilize PABS technology from Ash-TEK to beneficiate landfilled materials, supporting Lafarge’s global commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. 

 

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Temporary Fly Ash Plant Assistant to join our team at Lafarge at our Sundance Reclaim Facility. As a Fly Ash Plant Assistant, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of our fly ash processing plant. Your primary duties will involve operating and monitoring machinery, maintaining production levels, ensuring quality control, and adhering to safety protocols.

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Proficiently operate and monitor a variety of fly ash processing machinery, including dryers, crushers, mills, separators, calciners, and conveyors to ensure efficient production. 
  • Conduct thorough pre-operation checks and perform routine maintenance on mobile equipment to ensure optimal functionality and safety. 
  • Act as a safety leader by consistently demonstrating strong personal safety behaviors, reinforcing positive safety practices, and addressing unsafe behaviors in accordance with Lafarge standards. 
  • Perform regular inspections and maintenance on all equipment, proactively identifying and resolving potential issues to minimize downtime and maintain operational efficiency. 
  • Implement and monitor quality control measures, conducting tests and analyses to ensure fly ash meets required specifications and making necessary adjustments. 
  • Maintain accurate records of production activities, equipment maintenance, and any incidents, while actively participating in training and staying updated on industry best practices. 
  • Oversee the loading of bulk trucks and railcars with ash, and supervise the activities of truck/railway carriers and contractors on site as required, while maintaining general housekeeping around the work area.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: High School Diploma
Additional Education Preferred: Technical or Vocational Training
Required Work Experience: previous experience as a plant operator, preferably in a similar industry (fly ash processing, cement, construction materials, etc.)
Required Training/Certifications: Valid class 5 driver’s license

 

Additional Requirements: 

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of industrial machinery and processes.
  • Familiarity with fly ash or cement plant operations, including dryers, crushers, mills, separators, calciners and conveyors.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents, manuals, and diagrams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick and informed decisions.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality control and adherence to safety procedures.
  • Physical stamina and ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Must be able to work a rotating 12-hour shift schedule consisting of 4 days on, 4 days off/4 nights on, and 4 days off
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
