Description: 

ABOUT THE ROLE:
The EHSS Regional Manager is the environmental, health, safety, and sustainability liaison to the regionally assigned Holcim Building Envelope manufacturing and distribution sites. This position is responsible for ensuring that the locations have effective policies, procedures, plans, systems, business practices, standards and controls in place to identify, assess, monitor and manage EHSS risks and opportunities to comply with applicable federal and state laws and regulations. The EHSS Regional Manager is responsible for ensuring those policies and standards are aligned with Holcim Building Products, communicated, and institutionalized throughout the region, and for monitoring the region’s compliance with those policies and standards. This position will require someone who can take initiative, make decisions, and take responsibility for them, and react quickly to changing conditions requiring rapid shifts in priorities.


WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

  • Administer comprehensive OSHA and EPA Compliance Programs through Management.
  • Leadership & Teammate Involvement, Worksite Analysis, Hazard Prevention and Control, and Environmental Health and Safety Training.
  • Model behaviors consistent with a target of zero incidents  & 100% environmental compliance.
  • Engage, communicate, and influence others across the region to develop a culture of safety, sustainability and environmental excellence, impact reduction and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor all EHSS policies, practices and processes to determine efficiency and effectiveness and recommend improvements to achieve desired results.
  • Drive the operational implementation of EHSS strategies and initiatives in a way that builds a culture of compliance, performance and reputation and supports the Business Unit goals.
  • Maintain an effective system for identifying, reporting, investigating, tracking, and trending EHS incidents and taking action to ensure appropriate countermeasures are implemented.
  • Implement EHSS audit processes to assess regulatory compliance, identify deficiencies and ensure collaboration with operating facilities to proactively resolve gaps and identify action plans.
  • Serve as EHSS Subject Matter Expert and coach others
  • Direct EHSS emergency response activities
  • Provides guidance on regulatory/legislative matters (OSHA, NIOSH, ANSI, NFPA, EPA) and oversee government compliance inspections and activities.
  • Prepare and submit environmental regulatory reports according to application requirements
  • Report monthly EHSS metrics to Corporate as required
  • Develop local EHSS written programs, procedures and policies to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure implementation of the people security program and associated activities.
  • Promote and support the Line-Driven Safety Process.
  • Coordinate with Communication and Legal departments regarding stakeholder and public messaging.
  • Assist facilities with the ISO 14001implementation by monitoring metrics, coordinating audits, conducting management reviews and meeting targets.
  • Supports continuous improvement/automation activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Bachelor's/University Degree in the field of Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health or Related Technical Discipline or Masters/Graduate degree in the field of Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health or Related Technical Discipline.
  • 8+ years environmental, safety and health experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of software.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills and the ability to work in an open and consultative manner with others.
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, changing environment, demonstrating initiative and self-motivation.
  • Demonstrates sound business judgment and the ability to grasp the complexities of a large business organization and the application of legal and regulatory requirements to the organization.
  • Ability to comprehend law and regulation and judicial and regulatory interpretations of law and regulation, with the advice of company counsel, and to develop appropriate policies relative to the business.
  • Strong oral/written communication skills with ability to be precise and direct in communicating to larger and smaller groups.
  • Excellent written and verbal (formal and informal) communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively and work in a cooperative manner with a range of individuals at all levels and within all functions and to effectively build strong teams.
  • Effective and demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • High energy level and demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 certification program.
  • EHS&S related licenses, certifications (Certified Safety Professional) and/or membership in EHS&S professional associations desired.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • 30% to 50% travel required.
  • Must also be able to work flexible hours with minimum notification when necessary.
  • Ability to speak and present in front of large groups.
  • No fear of heights; ability to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, climb and move about in various environments.
  • Regularly operates a computer, computer accessories and phone equipment.
  • Required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and drive/sit for long distances and periods of time.
  • Ability to hear at normal speaking levels.
