Position Summary
This role will set the daily priority and overall strategy for the respective manufacturing area. The
operations manager will ensure alignment to the overall strategy and KPIs of the business. This includes
establishing the direction and alignment for Safety, Quality, Production, and a deliberate focus on
Continuous Improvement. The department manager will coordinate activities and continuously communicate
with downstream and upstream customers. This role will monitor and communicate operation area
production status, scrap, machine downtime, labor availability, and the effect of the operation to the plant
management team and other area managers.

 

Responsibilites

  • This position is responsible for the utilization of resources to achieve the optimum results.
  • Contribute to the establishment of area operating budget and area KPIs
  • Manage spending against a budget that is relative to changes in production volume
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of capital projects
  • Create, implement, improve, and maintain a department training strategy that includes routine review

           and update of a training capability matrix.

  • Lead, implement, improve, and maintain many Lean and Continuous Improvement strategies that

           include but are not limited to 5S, Audit Heijunka, Standard Work, Leader Standard Work, KaiKaKu
           Events, and daily Kaizen.

  • Continuously monitors area operation to maintain safe working environment, reduce waste, reduce

           defects, and ensure productivity.

  • Utilize Lean and Continuous Improvement strategies to improve Safety, Quality, and Throughput.
  • Timely, accurate data collection and reporting, analyzing data and making recommendations for

           improvements.

  • Conducts regular area and process audits to ensure standards are met, identifying any off standard

           conditions, and coordinating immediate appropriate corrective action with department supervisor.

  • Trains, Coaches, and mentors Supervisors and teammates.
  • Responsible for ensuring teammate performance, attendance and overall accountability
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels
  • Ensures compliance to all company policies and adherence to all federal, state and ISO regulations.
  • Routine communication of area performance to the area and plant teams.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications / Experience

  • 3+ years relevant prior management experience that includes managing a work force larger than 100

           people

  • 6+ years prior supervisory experience in a production driven environment, manufacturing and union

           environment preferred

  • Effectively utilize Microsoft office tools
  • Effectively communicate, lead, and manage diverse work groups. (semi-skilled, skilled, technical, and

           professional)

  • Proven ability to organize and manage projects, priorities, problem solve, analyze data and

           information, developing and implementing solutions.

  • Ability to read, analyze, create, and interpret technical instructions, schedules, specifications,

           procedures, and regulations.

  • Ability to effectively analyze data, present information, write reports, business correspondence, and

           articulate complex or technical information.

  • Ability to troubleshoot, problem solve and deal with a variety of variables
  • Ability to build high performing and collaborative teams
  • Must be effective problem solver, with excellent people management skills.
  • SAP experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
