Letter of Credit Specialist

Role Overview

We are hiring for a Letter of Credit Specialist team to join our team at our Trading office in Singapore. The Letter of Credit Specialist is the subject matter export of all Letter of Credit (LC), Standby LC and guarantee topics of HT&S and reports to the Head of Treasury & Insurance.

Key responsibilities are the operational excellence of import and export LC partnering with the Trading Operations team for a seamless process. You will be asked to work from 1PM to 10PM Singapore time on a few days of the week.

The LC Specialist ensures:

• Submission of LC applications via relevant bank trade finance platforms,

• Implementing controls for mitigation of any risks related to LC

• Tracking the proper execution of LC

• Training internal stakeholders in LC matters

Main Responsibilities

Business objectives:

• Guide and support Trading Operators for the day-to-day processing of LC, Collection and Trade Finance transactions

• Enable issuance of Standby and Commercial Letter(s) of Credit upon proper approval/receipt of required application documentation

• Review of Export LC drafts

• Examine documents to be presented under all types of LC for compliance to terms and conditions targeting clean presentations

• Counsel stakeholders on technical aspects of trade finance products/processes

• Drive the integration and use of AI in the day to day LC processes

• Enable Trading Operators for the input of the transactions into the relevant bank trade finance platforms

• Review LC documents for inconsistencies, advise the rectification of discrepancies where needed 

• Foster communicate with Trading Operators regarding LC terms and conditions

• Maintain the LC process (Operating Model) in collaboration with Treasury and Operations team

• Train the Organization on LC matters

Risk management

• Ensure adherence to the Holcim Code of Business Conduct, Trading and Shipping policies and all relevant Holcim policies

• Protection of the Holcim Group reputation and brand value for relevant seaborne trading activities

• Anticipation, mitigation and resolution of trade incidents under the Trading team’s guidance, providing suggestions on mitigations strategies

• Alerts to the Head of Treasury, TO Team Leaders and/or relevant Trading Operators and Traders in case of material risk, deviance from the delegation of authority or any risk of breach of applicable Policies, in line with HT’s segregation of duties.

• Strict compliance with the Operation Operating model (process, tools etc)

PROFILE REQUIRED

Education/ Qualification:

• Commercial degree in finance or banking, international trading, shipping, logistics, freight forwarding or similar education and experience.

Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of experience in trade finance / LC operations with an international trading company or with a finance institute.

Knowledge and skills:

• Excellent understanding of international seaborne trading and maritime regulations and logistics

• Knowledge of Trade Finance tools (LC, documentary collection, payment terms and payment instruments) and rules (UCP 600, ISP98, URDG 758)

• Good customer service, communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively within the department, traders, banks and customers / suppliers

• Good analytical and problem-solving skills

• Must be detail-oriented and accurate in a deadline-driven, multitask-oriented environment

• Ability to work independently.
