ABOUT THE ROLE

Holcim US, a leading supplier of quality, construction building materials in the United States, has immediate openings for a Welder to support our Night shift plant operations in Accokeek, Maryland. This position is primarily responsible for the operation of plant processing equipment at a quarry. This position typically works from 6:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday. Overtime will be required and shift times may be adjusted for business needs.

 

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Perform welding repairs on quarry equipment and machinery such as crushers, conveyors, screens, and heavy vehicles, ensuring equipment is in optimal working condition.
  • Fabricate metal parts for machinery and structures in the quarry, including custom brackets, frames, and supports, based on technical drawings or blueprints.
  • Weld and re-weld components of quarry machinery, including wear plates, hoppers, and chutes, using MIG, TIG, or Stick welding techniques.
  • Operate cutting tools such as plasma cutters, torches, and grinders to prepare metal parts for welding and to clean and finish welds.
  • Inspect welds for defects and ensure that welded components meet quality standards and safety regulations, performing necessary rework if needed.
  • Follow all safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, gloves, and welding helmets, in accordance with OSHA and MSHA standards.
  • Maintain welding equipment and tools to ensure optimal performance, performing routine cleaning and troubleshooting, and notifying the supervisor when repairs or replacements are needed.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance and operations teams to address equipment malfunctions and minimize downtime by providing efficient welding solutions.

 

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Field of Study Preferred: AWS Certified Welder (CW)

Required Work Experience: Minimum of 3 years of welding experience in an industrial or quarry environment, performing repairs and fabrications on heavy machinery and equipment.
Travel Requirements: N/A

  • Proficient in multiple welding techniques (MIG, TIG, Stick, Flux-Core) to handle various types of metal and welding conditions encountered in the quarry.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols to accurately fabricate and repair quarry equipment and components.
  • Strong knowledge of metal properties (e.g., steel, aluminum, stainless steel) and their behavior during welding to ensure quality and strength in the final product.
  • Experience with cutting and grinding tools, such as plasma cutters, oxy-acetylene torches, and grinders, to prepare and finish metal pieces.
  • Attention to detail to ensure welds meet safety, quality, and strength requirements, reducing the likelihood of future breakdowns or failures.
  • Familiarity with quarry equipment and machinery, understanding the specific repair needs of crushers, conveyors, and other heavy machinery commonly found in the quarry environment.
  • Knowledge of safety standards, including OSHA and MSHA regulations, to ensure safe welding practices and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to identify and fix issues in machinery and structures, reducing downtime and improving operational efficiency.
  • Ability to pass a 7-year criminal background check, including both felonies and misdemeanors, as required for employment.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests
