ABOUT THE ROLE
The Logistics Manager (“LM”) is a senior role within the Mid-Atlantic Ready Mix Management Team and provides leadership, motivation, development, and direction for the ready mix dispatch and customer service representative teams. The primary responsibilities encompasses developing the Logistics strategy and executing on the distribution of ready mix concrete, ensuring that our customers receive timely and appropriate delivery fulfilment. Responsibilities include ensuring that a high level of customer service is maintained while achieving budgeted productivity and cost control.
The LM will be a key person responsible for transforming the way we manage ready mix deliveries; away from a traditional order fulfilment function to a customer focused, value added service offering. To the extent possible the LM will leverage emerging digital trends to create new offerings for an improved customer delivery experience. The LM is an integrator and facilitator working closely within the operations, sales and quality control teams to ensure effective customer and logistics solutions are coordinated and delivered.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Achieves the Distribution Cost objectives of the region from a financial perspective. Improves productivity by analyzing all key performance indicators (KPIs), and developing and implementing strategies & tactics for improvement. Manages Dispatch working schedule and overtime costs.
- Drives performance by coaching, performance managing, counselling, mentoring and developing Logistics department employees. Manages team to meet internal and external customer requirements.
- Coordinates emergency situations with supervisory and N-2 staff, other department heads, GM, human resources, and staff.
- Evaluates all information at hand to determine what type of actions are necessary to Minimize Delivery Cost and satisfy the delivery need.
- Primary ownership POC for the region’s implementation of electronic tools relating to Logistics such as Command dispatching software, GPS tracking software, Concrete Direct, Call Center Phone Management tools, Truck Radio tools, call centre recorder, SAP and Excel.
- Supports the Region’s Driver Recruitment Task Force, working cross functionally to adjust driver recruitment targets to meet business needs.
- Assists the General Manager in the preparation of the budget, forecasts, scheduling expenditures, analysing variances and initiating corrective action.
- Ensures compliance with all Federal and local legal requirements.
- Maintains regular contact with Sales Manager & Operations Manager to determine Driver staffing needs required to fill customer demands.
- Regularly communicates via phone, email or in person with customers to ensure customer service expectations are met and exceeded.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Education: Bachelor's degree or 3-5 years of supervisory experience within distribution or logisctics. Prior experience in ready mix concrete is a significant plus.
Field of Study Preferred: Business or Logistics
Required Work Experience: 5 years’ relevant experience
Required Computer and Software Skills: Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Travel Requirements: day travel - local up to 25% in the region (Maryland, DC and Virginia)
