ABOUT THE ROLE
The role of the terminal operator is to provide high quality products and customer service while working safely as a team member. Bulk truck loading, hopper barge unloading, and terminal maintenance are the primary job functions of this position. However, these are not the only tasks performed by the Terminal Operator.
***This posiition is based out of our Summit, IL location.
WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH
- Operates and monitors all Terminal equipment, loads outgoing trucks, unloads inbound barges and rail cars.
- Operates forklift, rail car mover, and other light industrial equipment.
- Verifies accuracy of paperwork for incoming/outgoing shipments.
- Interprets and understands readings on equipment instrumentation panels.
- Participates in formal and on-the job training programs to acquire/broaden both technical and non-technical job skills; participates in cross training activities.
- Interacts with members of Terminal on a regular basis to gather or communicate information, solve problems, etc.
- Inspects equipment assigned to him/her each shift in accordance with Company policy.
- Assists with preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment.
- Must be able to work a rotating shift.
- Troubleshoot and repair critical and routine Mechanical failures.
- Complete planned maintenance work orders. Relationship with other Jobs: Terminal Operators need the ability to communicate with Terminal Managers, customers, sales personnel, trucking firms, and suppliers.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Education: High School diploma/GED
Required Work Experience: 1-3 years
Licenses Preferred: Valid Driver’s License
Required Computer and Software Skills: Basc knowledge about computers, Microsoft Office and SAP
Additional Requirements:
- High Mechanical aptitude and ability
- Candidates with a mechanical background and welding experience are desirable
- Knowledge of cement, the construction industry and integrated computer systems an asset
- Good communication skills
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
