JOB DESCRIPTION: Holcim (US) Inc. seeks an Engineer Automation II in Midlothian, TX to establish state-of-the-art automation with respect to cement plant control systems, through implementing the plant of tomorrow’s artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning applications, in furtherance of decarbonizing construction and accelerating the production of green building products. S/he is responsible for plant process control system [PCS] specification, application programming, testing, commissioning, and maintenance. The individual applies the PCS as a tool for improvement of plant performance including rate, availability, OEE and MTBF. The individual will also facilitate use of the PCS as a resource for Process, Maintenance, Production, Shipping, Environmental and Quality Departments. S/he manages resources to ensure understanding and compliance with environmental regulations and Holcim's sustainable development objectives, including the implementation of ISO 14001 system. S/he develops SAP transaction skills in the PP, PM and BW modules for production data entry, maintenance notifications, purchase requisitions and reports. S/he coordinates and communicates with suppliers and contractors of systems/equipment/services. S/he prevents downtime due to faults; facilitates continuous improvement to HMI and programming to both extend life of existing PCS; and facilitates eventual replacement. S/he supports installation of new plant equipment from conception to operation. S/he ensures integration of new systems into plant operations. S/he uses PCS to provide information for management or other reporting functions (high degree of involvement with environmental reporting and permit compliance). S/he works closely with Process Engineers to analyze, improve, and document all aspects of operations. S/he manages integration, maintenance, and application of systems, as well as incorporation of equipment areas previously outside PCS scope, conversion of relay logic systems and replacement or integration of PLCs. Note, this position requires domestic/national travel up to 5% of the time.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS: The position of Engineer Automation II requires a bachelor’s degree, or its foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, Electrical/Instrumentation, Process Control, or a related engineering/computer field, plus 5 years of progressively-responsible, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or in a related process control or engineering position.

 

The position requires 5 years of professional experience with each of the following:

  • 1) Industrial Networks and Communications
  • 2) PCS Programming and Infrastructure PCS (Programming Control System), including ABB 800XA           
  • 3) HMI Configuration and Operations (Human Machine Interface)
  • 4) High-Level Controls
