ABOUT THE ROLE

Holcim US, a leading supplier of quality, construction building materials in the United States, has immediate openings for a Plant Operator to support our plant operations in Clinton, MD. and surrounding areas.This position is primarily responsible for overseeing and operateing machinery and equipment in an industrial plant, ensuring it functions efficiently and safely. They are responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and sometimes repairing equipment, as well as adhering to safety protocols and regulations. This position typically works from 6:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday. Overtime will be required and shift times may be adjusted for business needs.

 

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Operate and monitor asphalt plant equipment, including mixers, conveyors, and silos, to ensure the production of high-quality asphalt.
  • Adjust plant settings (temperature, material mix ratios, etc.) to meet specific production and quality requirements.
  • Load raw materials (aggregates, bitumen, and additives) into the plant’s system and ensure proper material handling.
  • Conduct quality control checks on asphalt mixes and ensure they meet industry standards and project specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance on plant machinery and troubleshoot minor mechanical issues to minimize downtime.
  • Monitor plant operations and equipment performance to detect and resolve potential issues promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and environmental regulations, including proper use of PPE and dust control measures.
  • Maintain accurate records of production, maintenance, inventory levels, and quality control tests.
  • Communicate with truck drivers to ensure accurate and timely loading and delivery of asphalt to job sites.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions, material shortages, or quality concerns to supervisors and assist in resolving issues.

 

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Field of Study Preferred: A Technical or Vocational Certificate in industrial maintenance, mechanical operations, process technology, or a related field
Required Work Experience: Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in a plant, manufacturing, or industrial setting.
Travel Requirements: Up to 50%

  • Experience with Plant Equipment and operating and maintaining heavy machinery, such as crushers, conveyors, or industrial mixers, depending on the specific plant operations.
  • Understanding of Process Systems: Knowledge of the plant's process systems, from raw material handling to final product production, is critical.
  • Ability to quickly identify and troubleshoot operational issues that could affect plant efficiency or safety, minimizing downtime and ensuring production goals are met.
  • Understanding of basic mechanical and electrical systems to carry out routine checks and minor repairs or maintenance when needed.
  • Welding Expereince Preferred 
  • Strong knowledge of safety protocols and procedures, particularly in hazardous industrial environments, and the ability to enforce safety practices for themselves and their team (e.g., OSHA standards).
  • Attention to Detail: Being able to monitor plant operations closely and ensure that all machinery is running within safe and optimal parameters. A keen eye for spotting irregularities or potential issues is essential.
  • The capacity to remain calm and effective under pressure, especially in fast-paced or emergency situations where equipment failures or production delays may occur.
  • Strong verbal communication skills to relay critical information to supervisors, other operators, and maintenance teams. Ability to read and understand operational manuals and safety instructions.
  • Ability to work well within a team, coordinating with other plant operators, supervisors, and maintenance personnel to ensure smooth operations.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests
