SUMMARY OF THE JOB 

 

The Head of Power takes ownership to support the global power and decarbonization strategy within the energy category in Procurement, across the Group, and in strong coordination with countries & functions (Finance, CIP, Strategy, Legal). 

 

The aim of this role is to define, implement and achieve the set group renewable power strategy (including project development, Joint Venture, cement operation influence, energy related public affairs, etc.), ambitions and objectives in order to deliver the expected results and provide a competitive edge in all markets.

 

Candidate should have the expertise and leadership to engage, communicate, align with and win over local country teams (CEOs, Industrial leaders) as well as Cement Excellence Performance, the Global Innovation Center, Global and Regional Sustainability / Decarbonisation teams and other functions (Logistics, Group Digital, IT…); facilitate global exchange of best practices and sharing of success stories to accelerate decarbonisation globally.

 

MAIN ACTIVITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

- Take ownership to lead the Scope 2 decarbonization roadmap, drive the design and development of projects, focusing on creating the highest business impact.
- Development and implementation support of global strategies / technologies for our power decarbonisation, with a focus on renewable power
- Definition of procurement strategy to increase renewable energy consumption ensuring competitive cost
- Negotiate Power Purchase Agreements
- Expertize in Guarantees of Origin market analysis and trading is a plus
- Development and implementation support of global strategies / technologies for the following key decarbonization themes, mainly related to cement business:

  • Green power (waste heat recovery, solar, wind, hydro, geothermal,…) via short-term bilateral agreements, physical or virtual power purchase agreements, Capex projects, joint ventures as appropriate.

- Manage power procurement in order to optimise power cost:

  • Drive power provider selection process from Request for proposal (RFP) to recommendation 
  • Develop RFP including technical specifications, consumption profiles, price structure/schemes and supply duration

- Communicate and collaborate with internal and external partners at an executive level to gather support and spearhead group strategy. Required to influence and convince ExCo, area management, and Country CEOs to join global initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety standards and environmental policies.
- Evaluate partnerships for technologies along the value chain regarding the aforementioned decarbonisation theme

PROFILE REQUIRED 

Level of education/qualifications normally required: 
- Advanced university degree (Engineering or business/economics)
- Business & economics, Procurement, legal & contractual areas
- Engineering advantageous
- Decarbonization / Green power


Specific work experience: 
- Significant experience in Power sector, purchasing or management with a focus on renewable power procurement and power market regulation. Green power, including capex for renewable power projects development and other emerging technologies in green power. 
- Experience in setting up renewable energy solutions in Europe would be preferred.
- Significant operational and business management experience in heavy process industries.
- Significant management experience in both operational and functional positions.
- Decarbonization, engineering / industrial knowledge
- Technology and competitive intelligence regarding the evolution of the renewable and decarbonized energy markets
- Proven track record of implementing strategic innovations and new technologies in the power sector.


Technical / functional skills: 

- Strong commercial and business acumen

- Deep understanding of energy markets, in particular power market

- Thorough understanding of power regulations, especially access European market

- Negotiation skills are key 

- Procurement, legal & contractual areas

- Engineering advantageous

- Experience if setting up renewable energy solutions in Europe would be preferred

- Knowledge and experience in Guarantees of origin would be a plus
