ABOUT THE ROLE

Westridge Quarries, a division of Lafarge Canada Inc. has several career opportunities in Vernon, BC and surrounding areas. A recent acquisition of Lafarge, Westridge Quarries has long established itself as a leader in the Okanagan for contract crushing services and construction aggregate supply. With the goal of continuous growth and expansion in the local market.

The Scale Operator plays a key role in managing the flow of materials through the site by operating the weigh scale. This role is responsible for accurately weighing trucks, completing data entry, processing transactions, and providing a high level of customer service to haulers and internal teams. The Scale Operator also ensures compliance with safety and site protocols, contributing to the smooth daily operation of the site.

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Weigh inbound and outbound trucks for tare and sales purposes, ensuring compliance with legal and site regulations.

  • Enter detailed truck, customer, product, and job information accurately into the system.

  • Provide directions to truck drivers and maintain clear communication with loaders and yard staff.

  • Process credit and debit transactions quickly and accurately for walk-in or account customers.

  • Deliver excellent customer service to all haulers and visitors arriving at the depot.

  • Maintain day-to-day paperwork and ensure scale house supplies and cleanliness are up to standard.

  • Manage daily ticketing, sales tracking reports, and any additional administrative documentation.

  • Operate multiple scales as needed and adapt to varying traffic demands throughout the day.

  • Contribute to a safe and efficient workplace through strong communication and situational awareness.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Education: Grade 12 diploma or equivalent 
Required Work Experience: Prior experience in aggregate, scaling, or logistics environments considered an asset
Required Training/Certifications: On-the-job training provided; prior aggregate or scale system knowledge is a plus
Required Technical Skills: Computer literacy; experience with MS Word and Excel is a plus; ability to manage point-of-sale systems and perform accurate data entry

Additional Requirements:

  • Strong communication and customer service skills

  • Ability to multitask, stay organized, and solve problems efficiently

  • Must be reliable, punctual, and comfortable working 10+ hour shifts (sitting/standing as required)

  • Reliable transportation to North Kelowna depot

  • Experience in the aggregate industry or with truck scaling is a strong asset

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
