Overview

The prime objective of the Maintenance Inspector is to monitor equipment condition on a continuous basis and analyze trends in order to ascertain required maintenance interventions. The incumbent must analyze mechanical, electrical and mobile equipment to maximize equipment Performance, NAI, MTBF, PRI and life expectancy, at the lowest possible cost, while maintaining the production functions.

 

Responsibilities

 

Safety:

  • Guarantee compliance with OH&S and environment policies for maintenance personnel.
  • Establish safety culture and tackle specific actions to ensure health and safety during maintenance activities.
  • Contribute to plant housekeeping and cleanliness.
  • To serve as a role model in the areas of safety, environmental stewardship, leadership, teamwork, customer focus, and continuous improvement to ensure alignment with the company’s vision and critical success factors.

 

Environmental Considerations:

  • In consultation with the Environmental Manager, ensure that all regulatory requirements associated with the carrying out of operational duties are completed as required by the relevant regulation, certificate, or permit.
  • Updates and creates WBI and specific PMRs for new equipment

 

Maintenance Inspection:

  • Plan, schedule and execute the maintenance inspections.
  • To perform both a formal schedule of systematic inspections (Preventive Maintenance Routines - PMR) of plant equipment, and non-systematic inspections as required by equipment stoppages, daily incidents and pending turnarounds giving high priority to critical equipment.
  • Assure condition monitoring measurements after a machine repair, and before the start up.
  • The incumbent uploads data, generates trends, analyze the data and generates conclusions.
  • When necessary, inform superior about critical situations.
  • Generate notifications related to inspections and data collection.
  • Supervise condition monitoring executed by specialized third party services and assure that measurements and conclusions are correctly made.

 

Maintenance Planning:

  • Create and update/revise on a yearly basis the condition monitoring chart and the yearly program centralizing the information in the condition monitoring work-load balancing sheet.
  • Optimize and balance the workload for each week of the year. 
  • Participate in weekly planning meetings as well as in the major shut-down meeting to coordinate jobs with other departments.
     

Personal Equipment Maintenance:

  • Takes cares of instruments and tools under his/her responsibility (ie. cleanliness, condition, calibration, storage, etc.) to assure the highest availability.
  • Report any lost or damaged equipment to the supervisor for necessary actions.

 

Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

  • Ensure the tracking of performance indicators and achieved results.
  • Provide regular reports and updates to the plant, local/regional bodies as required.
  • Coordinates meetings with suppliers to stay updated on new tools and techniques available to optimize/facilitate the job execution.

 

Relationship with Others:

  • Report to Reliability Manager
  • Work Independently and in small teams
  • Supervisor/Coordinate contractors and labors to perform specific tasks
  • Work with Mechanical Planners and Supervisors; Production Managers and Supervisors; Process/Quality department; and Projects team
  • Oversees lubrication & Vibration data collection activities by direct reports

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Provide a safe working environment for all employees
  • Maintenance KPIs: Aging Notifications, Aging WOs, PMR%, PMR Efficiency, PM02 manual call ratio
  • Plant KPIs:  MTBF, NAI
  • Records and analyzes data, initiates the work orders, to maintain or replace equipment components so equipment reliability and performance are maximized and costs minimized and budgeted. 
  • Systematic inspections of all assigned plant equipment
  • Analysis of data collected, completed work orders, and process data in order to initiate appropriate maintenance work orders which include a detailed scope of work
  • Non-systematic inspections (repetitive problems, validate work requests, daily incidents)
  • Quality assurance of execution work done on and off site, and of materials received
  • Support plant safety program
  • Document and monitor equipment history files
  • Provide technical support for plant activities and the maintenance functions
  • Coach/mentor plant employees
  • Effective communication
  • Active role in budget preparation, forecast updating and compliance
  • Required to be part of on-call rotation
  • Supervision of specific jobs (LLC), supervision during shutdowns, ...
  • Assigned administrative duties

 

 

Qualifications 

 

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technologist, or equivalent field experience.
  • Extensive experience in equipment inspection and repair.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance systems (SAP) is an asset.
  • Lafarge Certified Inspector training or willingness to attain the same.
  • Basic knowledge on Industrial Electricity

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of Predictive Maintenance tools and techniques (Vibration Analysis, Oil Analysis, Ultrasound, Infrared Analysis, etc.)
  • Knowledge of problem solving techniques (Statistical Process Control, Root Cause Failure Analysis, etc.)
  • Experience in developing Preventive Maintenance (PM) programs.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Strong communicator (both oral & written).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to interact with plant personnel.
  • Highly motivated with ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving organizational and personal goals.
  • Proven ability to work well in a team environment (co-workers, suppliers, etc.)
  • Well organized and systematic.
  • Knowledge on Performance and Leading Indicators in Maintenance
  • Sadistic analysis
