Systems Technologist

Objective & Overview:
The primary objective of the Systems Technologist is to ensure the plants Process Control System and Sub-Control Systems are maintained and configured to provide safe, reliable service and efficient control. It is also the responsibility of the Systems Technologist to maintain the applications and communication that make up the plant's process network.
Responsibilities:
- Safety: Serve as a role model in the areas of safety, environmental stewardship, leadership, teamwork, customer focus, and continuous improvement to ensure alignment with the company’s vision and critical success factors.
- Reporting: Be familiar with and support the plant's ISO 14001 Environmental Management System including being aware of any specific duties outlined in the program. Fulfill the duties assigned to the CEMS Coordinator as defined in the Environment Canada report EPS 1/PG/7.
- Environmental: In consultation with the Environmental Manager, ensure that all process related changes and additions meet the regulatory requirements required by the relevant regulation, Certificate, or permit.
- People Skills: Coordinate with all relevant departments the activities associated with the plants Process Control System and sub-control systems.
- Resource Management: Coordinate all activities associated with applications and devices on the plants process network and their communication. This extends to the DMZ network and industrial applications on the business network.
- Technical Skills: Provide a reliable control system, which responds to the continually changing control philosophy of the plant and provides plant people with the tools to perform their jobs more effectively. Also, provide a continuous evolution of both plant control and IT/OT systems in order to meet future requirements
- Maintenance Operations: Participate in weekly maintenance meetings as well as in the major shut-down meeting to coordinate jobs with other departments. Be willing and able to supervise the electrical team on an ad-hoc basis.
- Planning & Cost Control: Contribute to the plant planning processes (PDP, budget & managing other routine expenses). Implement effective and systematic solutions to achieve budget and to meet or exceed targets. Assist the Outage Planner and Maintenance Manager to plan the major shutdown including all capital expenditures, creating underpinning/supporting information and building projects in SAP to manage and control the expectations of the shutdown.
- Technical Development: Participate in various training and development programs to strengthen specific job skills. Provide safe, technical leadership required to fully support the plant electrical team and to perform emergency electrical repairs when required.
Relationship with Others:
The Systems Technologist reports to the Electrical Coordinator. There are no direct reports to this position however; there are requirements to oversee contractors and to support the electrical coordinator and supervisor with supervisory tasks.

Qualification Profile:
Mandatory Education, Knowledge and Skills:
- Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technologist, or graduate from a similar program
- Electrical competency
- Computer hardware/software skills
- Networking skills
- Instrumentation and Control System experience
- Experience and competency understanding and creating P&ID’s, and other electrical and control drawings using AutoCAD and other drawing software.
- Experience and competency with Microsoft Office Products
- Experience and competency with data analysis using Microsoft Excel and other data analysis software.
