ABOUT THE ROLE

The Dispatcher / Scale Operator is a key operational role responsible for managing daily aggregate deliveries, coordinating truck activity, and ensuring accurate weigh scale operations. Reporting to the Customer Service & Logistics Manager, this position combines customer service, scheduling, dispatching, and data entry in a fast-paced environment. The role ensures safe, legal, and efficient movement of materials across Lafarge sites while supporting internal and external customer needs. Based in the greater Calgary area, the role requires strong organizational, communication, and multitasking abilities.

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Weigh and process inbound and outbound truck traffic accurately, ensuring legal compliance and correct data entry.

  • Coordinate truck schedules for deliveries and pickups, assigning haulers to customer orders efficiently.

  • Maintain open and professional communication with haulers, drivers, and customers to ensure timely service.

  • Operate one or more scale systems, enter customer and load data, and complete material tracking reports.

  • Ensure proper processing of cash sales (card only), including reconciliation and spreadsheet tracking.

  • Perform general office duties including supply ordering, paperwork tracking, and contractor time reporting.

  • Maintain cleanliness of scale house and office spaces while supporting safe site access and behavior.

  • Assist with internal and external reporting through spreadsheets, haul cards, and system exports.

  • Support accurate recording and dispatch of aggregate and asphalt orders while ensuring the right product reaches the right destination.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Education: Grade 12 or equivalent minimum
Additional Education Preferred: Training in customer service or IT systems is an asset
Required Work Experience: Experience in construction, haulage, dispatch, call centre, or scale operations
Required Training/Certifications: On-the-job training will be provided
Required Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets); experience with SAP programs or Vizzn is an asset
Travel Requirements: Travel between Lafarge sites within the greater Calgary area is required

Additional Requirements:

  • Excellent communication and telephone etiquette

  • Strong organizational and planning skills with ability to multitask under pressure

  • Solid math and data entry skills with strong attention to detail

  • Customer service orientation with problem-solving ability

  • Team player who can work independently when needed

  • Able to stand for extended periods and work early mornings, weekends, and holidays during peak season

  • Must have valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation (many sites are remote)

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
