Overview:

 

Reporting to the Design and Marketing Engineer for the Calgary Pipe Division, the Pipe EIT would provide engineering, sales and technical resource support for the Calgary Pipe Team. This is a developmental role and an opportunity to gain widespread expertise within our Concrete Products business with the ultimate goal of building a long-term career with Lafarge. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide technical support for all areas of the business including:
    • Project Management
    • Engineering & Drafting
    • Quality Control
    • Operations
    • Sales & Estimating
  • Serve as a role model in the areas of safety, environmental stewardship, leadership, teamwork, customer focus, and continuous improvement to ensure alignment with the company’s vision and critical success factors
  • Assist in managing projects by contract specifications, ensuring our commitments are met
  • Assist contractors with product supply coordination and provide follow up to ensure compliance with project requirements
  • Assist in developing strategies and objectives for sales, pricing and profitability
  • Provide product design support for engineering, plant production and sales
  • Coordinate with sales, project managers, draftsman, quality control personnel, and plant production on project details, scheduling, and problem resolution 
  • Provide solutions and support specifiers, contractors and owners on assigned projects from inquiry, quotation and completion
  • Problem solving for issues that arise in the production facility and on job sites
  • Attend client project meetings and provide engineering input 
  • Provide drafting support as required
  • Carry out plant and site inspections for quality assurance
  • Provide preliminary designs for budgets/estimates

 

Qualifications: 

Education:

  • Recent graduate in Civil or Structural Engineering, eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with APEGA, or already registered.
  • Candidates with a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or Structural Engineering Technology will also be considered
  • Interest in a long-term career in engineering and construction with a goal to pursue P. Eng. or CET designation

Experience & Skill Set:

  • Knowledge and experience would be considered an asset within:
    • Consulting engineering industry
    • Design approvals with municipalities and/or governments
    • On-site construction experience would be considered an asset
  • Ability to make rational decisions and resolve conflict
  • A team leader with excellent negotiation, communication and people skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer technical aptitude to learn new systems and programs, experience in AutoCAD is an advantage
  • Self-starter / Problem solver / Self-disciplined 
  • Good presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Possesses a valid driver's license
