ABOUT THE ROLE
The Senior Estimator within the Vancouver Pave and Concrete Construction divisions has direct accountability for the preparing, submitting and tracking of estimates for the commercial, industrial, municipal and federal segments. The Senior Estimator plays a key role in securing work and projects for the Pave and Concrete Construction divisions in the Greater Vancouver Area. Directly contributes to a “One Lafarge” vision by incorporating and utilizing all of Lafarge’s materials into bids.
The Senior Estimator contributes to organizational excellence by continually promoting a culture of agility, collaboration and empowerment enabling continuous improvement.
WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH
- Health & Safety Compliance: Follow Lafarge’s safety and environmental policies, including hazard identification, assessment, and control.
- Customer Relations: Liaise with customers, consultants, and owners to ensure satisfaction and resolve project concerns.
- Contract Expertise: Strong understanding of contracts, negotiations, legal processes, and project claims.
- Site Assessments: Attend pre-tender site visits to evaluate potential cost and production impacts.
- Estimating & Costing: Prepare accurate cost estimates using efficient construction practices and reliable subcontractors/suppliers.
- Technical Estimating: Conduct quantity take-offs, manage vendors, track indirect costs, and oversee material distribution.
- Bid Preparation & Submission: Ensure timely bid submissions with appropriate mark-ups based on market conditions and company policies.
- Project Setup & Documentation: Manage credit approvals, schedules, subcontract agreements, purchase orders, and accounting setup.
- Contract Administration: Verify documents, oversee tendering, manage change orders, and ensure accurate invoicing.
- Market & Bid Analysis: Track submitted bids, analyze market trends, and refine bidding strategies.
- People & Team Management: Supervise 1-2 estimators, mentor junior staff, and coordinate subcontractor scheduling.
- Project Oversight: Manage ICI projects, small subdivisions, and general contracting while monitoring costs and financial reports.
- Interdepartmental Collaboration: Work closely with estimators, superintendents, and project coordinators during bidding and construction.
- Reporting & Management Support: Advise management on bid dimensions and report directly to the Manager, Civil and Concrete.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma.
Additional Education Preferred: PMP, CEC, or Gold Seal Certification is an asset.
Field of Study Preferred: Business or Engineering.
Required Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years estimating experience. Must have understanding of pre-construction phasing, survey, grades, string line, equipment capabilities. and machine control.
Required Training/Certifications: N/A
Required Technical Skills: Understanding of estimating software, specifically Bid2Win, Blue beam.

- Good knowledge of Concrete Construction, Paving and Road Construction.

- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
