ABOUT THE ROLE

The Highway Maintenance Worker will be responsible for carrying out highway maintenance tasks, including supervising other workers. This may involve inspecting roads, operating snow plow trucks, performing labor-intensive tasks such as crack sealing, installing signs, removing debris from highways, and fulfilling any other necessary duties

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Operate snow plow trucks and loaders for snow removal and highway maintenance during winter conditions.

  • Inspect highways regularly and report deficiencies or hazards to the superintendent.

  • Perform manual labor tasks including crack sealing, sign and guardrail repair, gravel/asphalt placement, and debris removal.

  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company and regulatory safety standards.

  • Support the completion of necessary permits, field-level risk assessments, and participate in safety audits or investigations.

  • Provide clear documentation of incidents, maintenance activities, and other reports as required.

  • Maintain, clean, and service equipment to meet operational and safety guidelines.

  • Participate actively in safety meetings and Joint Health & Safety Committee activities.

  • Foster a safe and productive work environment by adhering to safe work practices and emergency response procedures.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Additional Education Preferred: Completion of safety-related training programs
Required Work Experience: Minimum of two years truck driving experience, including snow plow operation on highways
Required Training/Certifications: Employee orientation, operator training, WHMIS, TDG, First Aid (or willingness to be trained)
Required Technical Skills: Proficient in operating heavy-duty snow plow trucks and loaders; ability to complete written administrative forms and reports
Travel Requirements: Required to travel within highway maintenance zones; work is site-based

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid Class 3 license with air brake endorsement

  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts on a rotational day/night schedule 

  • Capable of physically demanding tasks, including manual labor in outdoor environments

  • Comfortable working year-round, including during inclement weather

  • Strong commitment to safety, with experience reviewing SWPs, FLRAs, and ERPs

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
