Overview 

Lafarge Canada has an immediate opportunity at our Edmonton Alberta Canada location for a Quality Control Technician to support our Ready Mix Concrete quality operations in the greater Edmonton area through pre-pour and post-pour checks, performing concrete testing, and assuring that products meet specifications. The successful applicant for this position must work well in a team environment, demonstrate a strong, independent work ethic, and continuously improve their own personal performance and skills.

 

The responsibilities:

  • Perform quality control functions including testing of plastic and hardened concrete and testing of aggregates

  • Field testing of concrete

  • Controlling concrete quality at the plant and in the field

  • Maintain and perform detailed records

  • Maintain records of testing documentation

  • Advise production staff if testing shows any deficiencies

  • Test and verify production concrete product as batched or on site.

  • Perform all necessary tasks related to testing and quality assurance.

 

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Must have the ability to learn quickly and acquire skills to perform the job description

  • CCIL or ACI Certification is considered a strong asset

  • A degree from college or university with a 2-year degree (Associate Degree) in Engineering Technology (or equivalent) is considered a strong asset

  • Previous construction related or concrete work is considered an asset

  • Must be independent and be able to work with limited supervision

  • Good written and verbal communication skills

  • Must have good organization and planning skills with the ability to multi-task

  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude

  • Must project professionalism with both customers and co-workers


Requirements

  • Must adhere to all Lafarge safety and environmental practices and policies

  • Valid Alberta Driver’s license along with access to reliable transportation

  • Able to use Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Must be able to work at varying start times which can include nights and weekends and overtime

  • Able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time

  • Able to lift up to 45 pounds

  • Able to climb ladders, scaffolding and stockpiles

  • Able to work in an industrial environment that may include dust, heat, loud noise

  • Able to do the above while wearing the appropriate required personal protective equipment (Hard hat, safety glasses, ear muffs, etc)
