Quality Control Technician - Pipe

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Pipe Quality Control Technician is a responsible team member that will contribute to provide constant monitoring and record keeping for the various stages of production of precast concrete pipe, as it relates to quality (i.e. compliance with CSA A257, CCPPA, CPCQA, job specifications, plant standards, and procedures). The role ensures the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive pipe quality control program.
WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

Oversee and manage daily quality control tasks related to pipe product manufacturing.

Conduct and supervise routine testing and inspections of pipe products to ensure compliance with quality standards.

Participate in planning and development initiatives for new products, ensuring quality considerations are integrated throughout the process.

Implement and manage specific quality plans to guarantee successful project execution and customer satisfaction.

Schedule and oversee regular testing of equipment and materials to verify compliance with established standards and procedures.

Conduct audits and measurements of production processes including wire welding, cutting, batch weights, machine vibrations, product finishing, and loading controls.

Review and update CSA, CPCI, and CPCQA Quality Manual Systems and conduct regular audits to ensure compliance.

Analyze product test data, prepare detailed evaluation reports, and recommend improvements based on findings.

Collaborate with internal teams to troubleshoot and resolve project-specific quality concerns.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Diploma or Degree
Field of Study Preferred: Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, or a related field
Required Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years in the construction industry, with concrete industry experience
Required Training/Certifications: CCIL or ACI certification
Required Technical Skills: Proficiency in computer applications, network operations, and communication software
Travel Requirements: Minimal travel required within the Edmonton as needed

Knowledge of cementitious materials and concrete properties is an asset

Proven ability to analyze technical specifications, performance standards, and sampling plans to ensure product quality

Experience reviewing certificates of compliance and test reports to verify product validity

Ability to draft and implement quality plans, procedures, and budget monitoring for R&D projects

Monitor and record all pertinent plant procedures. This includes keeping the required records and distributing report forms as outlined in the internal Quality program.

Perform a pre-pour inspection and follow-up post pour review of all products and provide a quality sign-off.

Must pass the Precast Concrete Drainage Product Quality Technician Examination within one year.

Prepare the necessary inspection forms for each specific job being monitored and record all data appropriately.

Perform testing of plastic and cured concrete (i.e. air, slump, cylinder breaks ect.) and record all necessary information as per specifications.

Evaluate mix design performance and consult Plant Engineer for necessary adjustments.

Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
