ABOUT THE ROLE
Lafarge Construction is looking for a Seasonal Surveyor to join our team in Edmonton, AB. The Surveyor will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy of survey data, monitoring project progress, and ensuring effective GPS performance on construction sites. This role will require collaboration with superintendents, estimators, project managers, and foremen to ensure timely and accurate survey results for construction projects. The Surveyor will use AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Topcon software to manage the surveying process and support machine control systems.

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate survey data, meeting project requirements and timelines.

  • Utilize AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Topcon software to build surfaces and support 3D Machine Control on the job site.

  • Accurately track and compile interim and final quantities related to project progress.

  • Oversee the operation of GPS systems in machinery, including graders, dozers, and skid steers, ensuring they are functioning correctly.

  • Perform survey layout tasks, including elevation data collection using transit levels.

  • Monitor project costs, report progress, and ensure file management and data integrity.

  • Provide support to field staff on the use of 3D machine control systems.

  • Contribute to preliminary surveys and manage road construction layout activities.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to health, safety, and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS

  • Document daily safety measures and participate in toolbox talks.

  • Attend safety training as required and maintain safe work practices.

  • systems to field teams.

  • Compile, track, and report on quantities and project progress.

  • Manage and maintain survey data, files, and reports.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: A diploma or degree in Civil Engineering. A combination of relevant education and field experience will be considered.
Additional Education Preferred:C.E.T designation is preferred
Field of Study Preferred: Civil Engineering, Surveying, or related fields
Required Work Experience: 2-4 years of experience in land surveying, with a focus on construction projects. Proven experience with GPS and Total Station technology. 
Required Training/Certifications: Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites. 
Required Technical Skills: Expertise in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Topcon software for surveying. Proficient in Trimble Survey Equipment operation. Solid understanding of GPS systems and machine control. Experience with survey layout and creating surfaces.
Travel Requirements: Local travel required to various construction sites around Edmonton, AB.

  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with project teams.

  • A strong commitment to safety and adherence to all health and safety protocols.

  • Expertise in Trimble Survey Equipment operation.

  • Solid understanding of GPS systems and machine control.

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim-approved PPE, including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean-shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the Squalitative and quantitative fit tests.
