ABOUT THE ROLE
Lafarge is recruiting a Yard Labourer at our Exshaw Cement Plant Labourers are responsible for aiding in all areas of the plant. They participate in housekeeping, maintenance and other various tasks throughout the plant. A high level of safety practices must be used at all times. From time to time employees will be required to run a 40+ lb jackhammer for extended periods of time.

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH 

  • Receive oral instructions to determine work assignments.
  • Perform general construction labor to include jobsite clean-up and moving of materials by hand.
  • Operating motorized equipment including power tools, grinders, saws, hammers, etc. 
  • Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials. A good majority of the time you will be required to shovel.
  • May assist with minor repairs and maintenance.
  • Remove rubble and other debris in the facility.
  • Complete Field Level Risk Assessments before beginning each task.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education Required: High School Diploma
Years of Experience: 1-2 years construction experience is preferred

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Prior experience in an industrial setting would be an asset
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors and in a noisy plant setting
  • Safety Oriented
  • Able to lift 50 lbs
  • Physically fit to stand and walk for long periods of time, full mobility to crouch, kneel or bend down for work. 
  • Able to work in a fast paced, high production environment
  • Willing to work overtime and shifts when needed
  • Able to work unsupervised
  • Able to work well with others
  • Good communication skills
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
