Health & Safety Student - Cement

Objective:
Reporting to the Safety Manager, the Safety is part of a team implementing and overseeing the Safety Program including the development of site safety policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Safety: Champion a safety culture by setting and enforcing rigorous safety standards across all operations. Conduct regular site safety audits, provide feedback, and implement improvements in collaboration with teams on construction sites and Lafarge operations. Serve as a role model in adhering to and promoting safety guidelines, ensuring compliance at all team levels.
- Assist in Safety Inspections & Audits: Support the safety team in conducting workplace inspections, identifying hazards, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Data Collection & Analysis: Gather safety-related data, track incidents, and help analyze trends to improve safety performance.
- Policy & Procedure Support: Assist in reviewing and updating safety policies, procedures, and training materials.
- Training & Awareness: Help organize and deliver safety training sessions, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns.
- Incident Reporting & Investigation: Support the team in documenting and investigating workplace incidents and near misses.
- Regulatory Compliance Support: Assist in ensuring compliance with local regulations, company policies, producers and standards.
- PPE & Safety Equipment Management: Help monitor and manage personal protective equipment (PPE) distribution and ensure employees have the necessary safety gear.
- Emergency Preparedness: Assist in organizing emergency drills, updating emergency response plans, and ensuring first aid stations are stocked.
- Safety Culture Promotion: Participate in safety meetings and initiatives to foster a strong safety culture in the workplace.
- General Administrative Support: Maintain safety records, assist with reports, and provide administrative support as needed.
Relationships with Other Jobs:
- Work closely with site-level and unit-level management on the implementation of Health and Safety Management Systems, Processes, and Training.
- Work with Health and Safety Manager in determining Business Unit priorities and developing policies/procedures.
Accountabilities:
- Ensure that 70% of the overall time spent is spent in the field (33% of the time dedicated to critical control management)
- Support the Safety team and operations as assigned
Qualification Profile:
Education and Work Experience:
- Must be pursuing a degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, or a related field of study
- Bilingual in French and English depending on the location
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to work flexible hours as dictated by the requirements of the position, including extra time at peak intervals
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage multiple activities
- Mature attitude and ability to work effectively independent of supervision
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to attend to detail, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate to persons at all corporate levels, with diverse educational, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds
- Timely and sound decision-making skills
- Proficiency with various computer applications is a definite asset
