ABOUT THE ROLE
To ensure that Lafarge products are in compliance with all specifications required. Assists with the implementation of best practices and techniques, in regards to quality and mix design optimization. The position assists all levels of the operation in establishing and achieving quality objectives while working closely with both operations and management. 
 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Assist in the implementation and compliance of Lafarge Safety Program to ensure personnel are working in a safe manner in accordance with policies and procedures. Ensures all aspects of his/her role are executed in a safe manner. Obeys safety guidelines when on construction sites and Lafarge operations. 
  • Handle independently all quality activities at a plant or number of plants. 
  • Performs and documents quality control test in accordance with established local or national standards (CSA, ACI, ASTM and within the precision standards established. Maintain a documentation of all testing conducted at the plant and on site.  
  • Interpret test results and recommend changes if needed.  
  • Maintain communication with RMX Batchers on measurements of air entrainment and slump in concrete obtained in the field and required dosage changes.  
  • Direct testing at the jobsite for slump, air and making of concrete cylinders, in addition to lab testing such as compressive strength and aggregate sieve analysis.
  • Responsible for ongoing maintenance, calibration and documentation of testing equipment.  
  • Review the daily shipping schedule and draft the testing plan, and join daily calls if needed.
  • Assist in the development of new mix designs for lab trials as per guidance by the Quality Manager or Quality Supervisor. 
  • Adjust mixes independently using the Quadrel system.
  • Conduct coaching and training sessions for the drivers, new hires and batchers.
  • Assist in promoting and launching new and Value added products among internal and external customers.
  • Establish the environment as a priority in daily activities and act as a steward to the environment. Demonstrate a commitment to meet or exceed environmental compliance. 
  • Ensure good customer relations. Must be able to communicate effectively with customers.  Provides customer support in resolving quality concerns and problems in the field working with the QC Manager. Educates customers in proper construction techniques and application of all Lafarge products. Assist salesmen, superintendents and managers as required.  
  • Assist in pre-pour meetings and in coordinating QC activities at the plants and on site.
  • Ensure quality materials through the active testing of raw materials. Sample raw materials for validation at the lab and conduct mix adjustments (at the plant or in the field) using admixtures as required. Independently conduct materials moisture tests, and calibration of the moisture probes of the plant.
  • Pass ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade 1.  Pass ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician

Education: High School
Additional Education Preferred: Diploma or College degree in Civil Engineering
Field of Study Preferred: Civil Engineering
Required Work Experience: minimum 10 years
Required Training/Certifications: 
Required Technical Skills: Microsoft suite
Travel Requirements: 10%

  • Extensive experience of construction and Aggregate & Concrete products and a solid understanding of the market, competition and business opportunities

  • Must be timely with sharing information and provide the information people need to get things done and make decisions
  • Excellent written and verbal communications – ability to write and speak succinctly in a variety of settings and styles
  • Must be a strong team player and gain the trust and support of peers
  • Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators.
