Overview:

The Crusher Lead Hand is responsible for overseeing daily field operations, supervising and coordinating crushing crews, truckers, QC, and sub-contractors. The Lead Hand ensures high-quality material production, meeting required specifications, and completing projects safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with mining and environmental regulations.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise the crushing crew to ensure effective and efficient operations.

  • Maintain and ensure the safe operation of crushers, screeners, conveyors, loaders, and other related aggregate and mobile heavy equipment.

  • Oversee equipment maintenance and troubleshooting to minimize downtime.

  • Work independently while fostering a team-oriented work environment.

  • Willingness to work in adverse weather, night shifts, out-of-town assignments, overtime, and weekends as required.

  • Manage conveyors, panel boards, pumps, gauges, and dials to ensure the highest efficiency and material consistency.

  • Promote a positive work culture and set clear safety and production expectations for the crew.

  • Demonstrate strong leadership by setting an example and motivating the team to perform at their best.

  • Schedule and manage routine and major repairs for crushers, screeners, loaders, and all other pit-related equipment.

  • Maximize the use and effectiveness of tools and equipment, ensuring they remain in compliant working condition.

  • Resolve crew conflicts and interpersonal issues while maintaining productivity and morale.

  • Project a positive company image through professional conduct and communication with co-workers.

  • Utilize excellent problem-solving skills and demonstrate sound decision-making in high-pressure situations.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient crushing operation and work environment.

  • Continuously ensure compliance with mining and environmental standards as outlined by applicable governing bodies and company requirements.

  • Accurately enter labor, equipment, and production data in a timely manner.

  • Follow and enforce all company safety procedures and directives, ensuring adherence at all levels.

  • Engage with employees at all levels to proactively identify and resolve risks.

Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license (preference given to candidates with a Class 3 with air or higher).

  • Computer experience is preferred but not essential.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in gravel crushing operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.

  • Experience operating various heavy equipment (e.g., loader, excavator) is an asset.

  • High School diploma preferred, but not mandatory.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
