Overview

Vernon Paving, a division of Lafarge Canada Inc., operating in the Okanagan Valley is currently seeking applications for an experienced full-time seasonal construction labourer.

 

We currently employ approximately 25 staff, servicing municipal, commercial, residential and provincial asphalt paving markets. Vernon Paving is a Union company that offers employee benefits and competitive wages starting at $31.84/hour subject to the qualifications and experience. We offer a safe work environment, on the job training, up to date well-kept equipment and room for advancement. These positions are based out of our Armstrong location and work sites are throughout the North Okanagan.

 

Responsibilities:

  • General laborer duties associated with all aspects of road construction including base and paving

  • Required ability to shovel, rake and handle other small tools.

  • Ability to work safely and follow safety guidelines

  • Assist in the placement, moving, and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones, spotting, flagging and other traffic control devices.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Work in a team environment to ensure that project timelines are met

  • Assist with other paving-related tasks as needed

  • Follow and adhere to all the Company’s safety procedures and directives

  • Responsible to ensure all work is completed in a safe manner

  • Perform work in outdoor construction site settings

  • Act in a courteous manner in order to project a positive company image

Qualifications:

Experience and Competencies

  • Road construction experience is considered an asset

  • Previous experience working on asphalt and concrete paving projects

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain proper grades and slopes

  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with coworkers

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

  • Must be able to work under pressure

  • Must be able to meet all safety requirements and applicable safety policies

  • Willingness to work flexible hours

  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt

  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis.
