ABOUT THE ROLE
The primary objective is to reduce / eliminate environmental liability by ensuring the plant is operating with the requirements of the permit, regulation and the law. The incumbent will deliver the elements of the environmental management system such as ensuring audits are completed; follow up actions are completed and provide supporting on administrative duties necessary for compliance. In addition, the Environment Coordinator, works with various other departments and Country level staff to advance Lafarge Canada’s sustainability goals (decarbonization, circularity, water & nature, and people and communities) and develop long-term improvements as well as working to ensure that the Lafarge technical doctrines are implemented at the plant level.
WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH
- Follows and ensures full compliance with Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Ensures all contracts and project site meet the Lafarge safety policy requirements for our employee’s safety.
- Develop, circulate and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to control the impacts of plant activity on the environment
- Identify environmental hazards and propose preventative measures
- Develop and update an emergency and communication plan in the event of an environmental incident
- Implement the means needed to minimize, recycle and treat waste generated by the plant
- Work with project stakeholders to prepare environmental documents and related technical studies
- Set environmental department long, medium and short term goals and objectives in line with country, market and plant objectives
- Manage all compliance reporting requirements within the Eastern Canada Region, including both internal and external regulatory reporting requirements.
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviours.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, Chemical Engineering or other relevant areas of study
- 3 to 5 years of experience
- Proficient in the use of computers, operating systems and word processing programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, MSProject)
- Good understanding of the ISO and related series of standards
- Work in an organized manner with a focus on the job well done
- The ability to multi-task and work well under pressure to meet stringent time constraints
- Bilingual (French and English)
Additional Requirements:
- Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators.
