ABOUT THE ROLE
The Drill and Blast Supervisor is responsible for the daily drill and blast activities and performance on site, in addition to the development, leadership and management of the associated staff. The Drill and Blast Supervisor will lead by example, working closely with all business partners, Safety, Environment, Land, Performance and Quality to drive communication and consistency. The primary focus is to optimize operational safety, performance and labour management to achieve the highest productivity at the lowest cost of production. As well, the Drill and Blast Supervisor will work to ensure Lafarge is viewed as a valued member of the industry and local communities in which it operates.
WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH
- Implement and track maintenance, production processes and strategies to achieve targeted Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s). Employ daily communication process with management and Quality to drive group efficiencies, manage inventories and production performance.
- Assist in planning, driving and tracking financial performance with local/regional tools, develop, implement and manage annual labour budgets.
- Develop and schedule daily/weekly drilling/blasting plans, to balance in-pit inventories of cement, chemical, granite and white rock with customer requirements.
- Administer and manage local collective and hourly working agreements with site employees. Directly responsible for the motivation, scheduling and training of all drill & blast personnel to promote customer focus, operational efficiency and skill development.
- Ensure that site meets or exceeds all Lafarge and Regulatory guidelines. Assist with the implementation and management of a sustainable mining plan with detailed stripping, production phasing and rehabilitation forecasts to ensure reserve optimization, while managing community impact.
- Ensure that site meets or exceeds all Lafarge and Regulatory guidelines. Implement and manage operational standards to manage activities and mitigate our environmental impact.
- Support effective relationships within the community by participating in local activities/events and through partnerships with local associations and the business community.
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: High School Diploma
Additional Education Preferred: College Diploma or University Degree
Field of Study Preferred: any
Required Work Experience: 5-7 years of drilling and blasting experience
Required Training/Certifications: British Columbia Open Pit Shift Boss Certification
Required Technical Skills: MS Office, AutoCAD
Additional Requirements:
- Knowledge of the British Columbia Mines Act required
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Recognized safety training
- Experience in administration of Collective Agreements preferred
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
