ABOUT THE ROLE

Westlake Paving & Aggregates, a division of Lafarge Canada Inc., operating in the Okanagan Valley is currently seeking Pave Foreperson to join our team. As a Pave Foreperson, you will be responsible for lead a paving crew, ensuring that all work meets established safety, quality, and production standards. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and expertise in paving operations.

 

Westlake Paving & Aggregates has established itself as a trusted provider of paving solutions, catering to the diverse needs of residential, commercial, and municipal clients. Westlake Paving is a Union company that offers employee benefits and competitive wages starting at $41.33/hr subject to the qualifications and experience. We offer a safe work environment, on the job training, up to date well-kept equipment and room for advancement. These positions are based out of our Kelowna location and work sites are throughout the Central Okanagan.

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Lead and direct personnel, equipment, and resources to optimize productivity.

  • Conduct hazard assessments, tailgate meetings, and complete all required documentation.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, track and report daily job productions, and manage job coding.

  • Maintain a professional company image while fostering a positive and productive work environment.

  • Train and lead by example while effectively delegating roles and responsibilities on the crew.

  • Ensure adherence to company policies and safety practices.

  • Apply extensive knowledge of paving and construction practices to execute high-quality work.

  • Proficiently operate and direct the use of heavy construction equipment.

  • Utilize Bid2Win, SiteDocs, and Fleet Watcher as needed.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Education: High school diploma or equivalent professional experience.
Required Work Experience: Minimum 2 years of forepersonexperience in asphalt paving or 5+ years of experience as a lead hand or sub-foreperson

Required Training/Certifications: Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Required Technical Skills: Strong understanding of paving practices, materials, and construction procedures. Experience with Bid2Win, SiteDocs, and Fleet Watcher is an asset.

Travel Requirements: Must be willing to work in Kelowna and surrounding area

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to work overtime, nights, and in all weather conditions.

  • High level of workmanship, quality, and attention to detail.

  • Strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.

  • Sound judgment and ability to work independently and safely.

  • Physically demanding role requiring crouching, bending, lifting, and kneeling.

  • Manage conflicts and resolve issues between co-workers and team members professionally.

  • Efficiently utilize crew members and resources to meet project demands.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, track and report daily job productions, and manage job coding.

  • Order materials and measure for appropriate quantities per approved drawings.

  • Ensure all work complies with safety and environmental regulations, with safety as the top priority.

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests
